Angermünde celebrates 160 years of the fire department and 35 years of the association!
There was recently a very special occasion in Angermünde that brought the community together: the fire department celebrated its 160th anniversary with a festive fire department ball in the city's multi-purpose hall. Around 400 guests from the region did not miss this celebration. Again Northern Courier reported, not only was the anniversary of the fire brigade celebrated, but also the 35th anniversary of the Uckermärkischen Fire Brigade Association Angermünde e.V.
The evening provided a platform to highlight the commitment and cohesion of the firefighters. In his speech, city fire brigade leader René Pöschl recalled the responsibility and service of the fire department over all the years. Speeches by Lutz Timm, chairman of the fire brigade association, Karina Dörk, Uckermark district administrator, as well as Frank Kliem, vice president of the Brandenburg state fire brigade association, and Heiko Hinsche, deputy district fire chief, underlined the importance of the fire department and its role in the community.
A celebration of community
In her speech, Mayor Ute Ehrhardt not only praised the dedication of the firefighters, but also the sense of community that is very important in Angermünde. The ball was also an excellent opportunity to celebrate the vibrant 35-year town partnership with Lügde and Espelkamp in North Rhine-Westphalia. For this occasion, 47 firefighters from Lügde and three administration representatives from Espelkamp traveled.
The event offered guests the opportunity to take an exciting trip to Altkünkendorf. There we visited the Grumsiner distillery and the observation tower of the village church. The UNESCO World Natural Heritage Buchenwald Grumsin also captivated many participants.
Musical background
The “Test Band” from Waren (Müritz), which thrilled the ball guests with live music, ensured the right atmosphere. The fire brigade ball was not only an anniversary celebration, but also a successful evening full of encounters and exchanges.
Fire departments are not only responsible for fire protection, they also contribute to the historical and cultural identity of their communities. In Germany, professional seminars that deal with the history of fire departments take place regularly, such as the next seminar with a focus on the “Weimar Republic,” which will take place on March 14, 2026 in the German Fire Department Museum in Fulda, organized by the Association for the Promotion of German Fire Protection vfdb.
The fire department ball was a successful evening that not only paid tribute to the historical milestones of the Angermünde fire department, but also underlined the sense of community and cohesion in this city. Once again it has been shown how important and valuable the voluntary work of our firefighters is.
