Bärenwald Müritz celebrates 1.5 million visitors: animal welfare in focus!
Waren (Müritz), Deutschland - A small but fine reason to celebrate in the Bärenwald Müritz: The 1.5 millionth visitor was greeted! Rita Teichmann from Saxony-Anhalt accepted this honorable award, while she explored four paws as part of an animal welfare project of the organization of the organization. Her decision to visit the bear forest was no coincidence - inspired by a television documentation, she had been planning this step for a long time. During her visit, Petra Konermann, the head of the visitor organization, was pleased with the growth of guests and emphasized the importance of animal welfare.
The Bärenwald Müritz, which opened its gates in October 2006, has since received 29 brown bears from catastrophic attitudes in Europe. Every animal has its own story, and the efforts to enable these animals to make a better life is very important here. Rita Teichmann was enthusiastic about the work that is being done here and said that she intended to come back soon.
a home for bears
In the Bärenwald Müritz, the needs of the animals are in the foreground. Bears are not displayed here; Instead, you have the freedom to shape your daily routine yourself. Contact between humans and bears is reduced to the bare essentials and the bears can withdraw at any time. Visitors get an insight into the daily activities of the animals, which, if they want, can also show themselves while they are looking for food - very similar to the wild.
The supervisors in the bear forest have a good hand to employ the animals. Feeding games are developed that promote both the intelligence and the skill of the bears. For example, a wagon wheel with filled balls is used as a toy, and the feed hitches ensure new challenges. Individual support by experienced animal keepers and wild veterinarians helps the former fighters back to a health -stable lifestyle.
A look over the borders
If you look beyond the borders of Germany, the suffering of the bears in other countries becomes clear. In Romania, many brown bears suffered from miserable farm conditions for decades, were kept in small cages and abused as tourist attractions or circus bears. This is where the Bärenschutzzentrum in Zarnesti puts important impulses to offer these animals an animal -friendly home. Together with the World Animal Protection Society, the partner organizations have been committed to ending the worst attitudes.
There are still challenges in Romania: human-bear conflicts are reinforced by false garbage management and the construction of new highways, which brings the bears close to cities. The consequences are not nice - a new law allows the hunt for almost 500 bears per year. This situation means that mother animals are also shot, which leads to orphaned young animals. In the Carpathians, over 120 formerly necessary bears found a new home on 70 hectares.Back to Müritz: The Bärenwald not only stands for animal welfare, but also for hope for change. Every ticket that is sold contributes to rescue and protect these majestic animals. And so in the end it only remains to be said: what an honorable place that not only inspires bears, but also people to do good.
