Federal President Steinmeier welcomes diplomats in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania!

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on June 24, 2025, accompanied by a numerous diplomatic corps. Over 160 ambassadors had gathered to experience the beauty and diversity of the region up close. This annual trip, which has been carried out since 1996, pursues the goal of presenting Germany and its regional peculiarities of foreign diplomats. This year the focus was on business, culture and maritime flair of the northern German pearl.

The start was the visit to Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH in Waren an der Müritz, a company that has made a name for itself with huge ship propellers. These impressive pieces have a diameter of over 11 meters and weigh up to 160 tons. Such insights into the regional industry not only show manual skills, but also the importance of shipping for the region.

lunch in Ulrichshusen Castle

After the fascinating "Propeller", we continued to lunch at Ulrichshusen Castle. The Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) had invited the diplomats to receive them in this historic Renaissance building. Framed by a festive setting, Archbishop Nikola Eterović, the Doyen of the Diplomatic Corps, held a greeting. This sociable round offered the diplomats the opportunity to talk to each other and get to know the culture of the region better, not least since the castle is an important venue for the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival.

seafaring and majestic setting

In the afternoon, a remarkable journey through the Rostock port was on the program, which finally led to Warnemünde. Here the reception on the sailing school ship "Gorch Fock", an iconic ship of the German Navy. This maritime backdrop underlines the connection of the region at sea and at the same time offers a unique atmosphere to bring the beauties of the Baltic Sea closer to the foreign representatives.

The trips of the diplomatic corps offer the opportunity to explore the cultural and economic landscape of Germany more in more detail. For 2024, Brandenburg was determined as the goal of this traditional tour, which further consolidates the constant exchange and networking between Germany and other countries.

For the diplomatic trip in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, it was not only an opportunity to get to know regional actors, but also to experience Germany's wealth of historical and cultural treasures up close. This not only strengthens diplomatic relationships, but also promotes mutual understanding and appreciation

for the cultural differences.
