Young talents shine at the German carpentry championships!
It was an exciting weekend for the wood specialists, because the German championships in carpentry and carpentry took place on November 10th and 11th at the Regional Vocational Training Center in Waren (Müritz). Here the best young talents in the industry were able to demonstrate their skills and the best among them were announced on Wednesday, November 12th.
The winner of the competition was the talented Simon Pratzek from Schleswig-Holstein, who took first place with an impressive 84.6 points. Vitus Brandmair and Leo Eisen from Bavaria followed in second and third place with 82.8 and 82.6 points, respectively. This means the competition is pretty high!
The “Slanted Library” challenge
The task that the participants had to master was “Schrägothek”. This required not only technical skills, but also creative design ideas. The workpiece included traditional and sophisticated wood connections. The base frame included classic frame connections as well as slightly trickier ridge connections. The body was mitered and had a blunt flap that sat loosely on the frame.
Another part of the challenge was preparing the surface for a clear coat. Machines were allowed to be used, but with certain restrictions. Working with veneer and designing dovetail joints were particularly challenging. These details required a lot of sensitivity, which is why the participants had two full days and a total of 18 hours to complete their masterful work.
Young and dynamic
This year there were many young talents among the 19 participants, who were significantly younger than in previous years. This shows that the trade is increasingly relying on fresh, creative minds.
The top three in the competition were not only able to enjoy fame and honor, but also received high-quality prizes: a professional handheld machine from Festool and a range of products from Spax, tailored to their placement.
The German Championship may be over, but the drive and talent of this new generation of carpenters and carpenters is unmistakable. It remains exciting to see how the future masters of the craft will develop. We warmly congratulate you and are excited to see what the future brings!
