Müritzsee: Waren celebrates 100 years of tourism splendor and new heights!

Waren an der Müritz, a charming town in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, attracts visitors from near and far. With 21,000 inhabitants, the city has made a name for itself and owes its prosperity to the picturesque Müritzsee - the largest inland lake in Germany, whose area covers an impressive 117 square kilometers. Tourism is not just a trend here, but the most important source of income for over a century. History already shows this: In 1896, the well-known writer Theodor Fontane spent six weeks in Waren and made a significant contribution to the popularity of the region through his positive reports. Back then it was the beginning of a lot of in-house development.

The development of tourism gained momentum in the Weimar Republic when numerous accommodations were created: nine hotels, 20 guesthouses and ten restaurants were added. The opening of the first bathing establishment in 1845 laid the foundation, and by 1900 it was clear that tourism would become the most important industry. Even though the post-war years brought with them a stagnation of tourism, the city flourished again as a holiday and health resort in the years that followed. In 1954, Waren received the title of “climatic health resort”, and the city has had this title again since 1999.

Health and spa town

The city has developed over the years and was recognized as a “state-recognized spa” in 2012. This award not only pleases locals but also attracts many health and wellness seekers. The healing power of the Waren thermal brine plays a major role, also thanks to the newly opened spa center on the Waren Nesselberg. With this healing tradition, Waren (Müritz) has developed a solid foundation as a health center that offers a comprehensive range of services.

But it's not just the health offerings that are a magnet for tourists. We were also impressed by the beautiful nature, clean air and a variety of leisure activities. From hiking routes that lead through the beautiful surroundings to cultural offerings such as the Müritzeum, a nature discovery center that attracts thousands of visitors every year - the city has something to offer for everyone.

With its historic old town, which has now been completely reconstructed, and a wide range of gastronomy, tourism in Waren an der Müritz is not only a relaxation for body and soul, but also an important building block for urban development. The long tradition as a resort, dating back to the 19th century, is evident in the lively atmosphere and the community's commitment to always providing its guests with a pleasant experience.

As you can see, tourism in Waren an der Müritz not only has a long history, but it is also firmly rooted in the present. Even today, the place is still doing good business with its offerings and is attracting more and more people who appreciate the city's nature, air and culture. Waren remains a popular destination for holidaymakers from all over Germany and beyond. District newspaper reported that… and on Were tourism you find out...
