The importance of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as a source of inspiration for artists is undisputed. Numerous painters such as Caspar David Friedrich have created masterpieces here that have achieved world fame. But the region is not only home to historical greats; Contemporary artists are also active here. This is how the painter Carola Pieper lives on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, where she lives in a charming thatched house. Her husband Jens restores fishing dinghies and they enjoy maritime life together. Carola often plays on nostalgic wooden boats and is inspired by the variability of the play of light on the water. She sees art as a way of meditation and communication with her surroundings, and her motto “In through the eyes and out through the fingertips” represents her creative philosophy.

Cultural events and artist colonies

There are also numerous events in the region that provide a glimpse into the creative scene. Events like Kunst:Open at Pentecost allow visitors to immerse themselves in studios and workshops. Here you can not only admire the works, but also often pick up a brush and get creative. The environmental photo festival in spring and the active photography autumn also stand out from the colorful range of events and attract numerous art enthusiasts.

The artists' colony in Ahrenshoop, which is located nearby, also illustrates the long tradition of artists who work and have their work done in this picturesque environment. It is a place where art and nature merge in a unique way. Further information can be found on the artists' colony website: norddeutsche-kuenstlerkolonien.de.
