Discover Northern Germany's treasures: from wind turbines to balcony stages!

Northern Germany is currently showing off its most beautiful side and inviting locals and guests to discover the diverse events and natural beauty. With a wealth of activities for young and old, the region ensures unforgettable experiences.

The “Northern Tour” is currently taking place, which is an invitation to explore northern Germany’s enchanting landscapes and cultural treasures. In addition to numerous events, Lake Dümmer, Lower Saxony's second largest lake, is also highlighted. Here you can not only sail and windsurf, but also enjoy the fresh summer air while pedal boating or stand-up paddling. Cultural highlights

On July 2nd and 3rd, the Altonaer Balcony Theater will be the stage for the “Hamburg opens” event. The focus here is on private theater performances and musical performances on the balconies. An absolute must for all art lovers!

The Störtebeker Festival on the open-air stage in Ralswiek, Rügen, attracts visitors with gripping stories about Klaus Störtebeker and Goedecke Michels. A bronze sculpture commemorates the eventful history and the execution of the legendary pirate in 1401.

Another highlight for history buffs is the bike tour along the former inner-German border near Ratzeburg. Over approximately 20 kilometers, participants can hear contemporary witnesses and visit stations related to the time of German division. A stop at Café Grenzstein makes the trip particularly enjoyable.

Family friendly attractions

The LEGO® Discovery Center Hamburg opened its doors in the Westfield Passage for younger visitors. The interactive experience world covers 3,000 square meters full of fun and creativity for LEGO® fans. Playing here is twice as much fun!

The Hamburg Botanical Garden also creates a summer atmosphere with the “Music & Lyrics” concert series in the greenhouse. These monthly events invite you to linger and enjoy.

There is a special initiative at the Rostock-Schlage animal shelter: Here children have the opportunity to read to cats in order to get the animals used to people and to promote their own reading skills. A great thing that does several good things!

Sustainability in focus

In addition to all of these activities, sustainability is also high on Northern Germany's agenda. This region between the North and Baltic Seas is not only characterized by its warm hospitality and cultural offerings, but also has a lot to offer in terms of ecological initiatives. Schleswig-Holstein boasts some of the largest onshore wind farms in Europe and Hamburg and Bremen are pursuing ambitious climate strategies.

The German Littoral holiday region attracts visitors with its picturesque coastal towns and historic cities. Under the roof of German Coastal Region e.V. Tourism has been successfully promoted in northern Germany for over 25 years, with Poland being the current target market in focus. Sustainable tourism is very important here and initiatives such as the “Green Vibes Only” project set an example towards environmental awareness.
