Deutsche Bahn is investing 110 million in Erfurt's new educational campus!

Deutsche Bahn is getting off to a great start in Erfurt and is investing in a large project that is intended to make the city a hub for modern mobility. The start of construction for the “ICE City” on the site of the former freight station was recently announced. Construction work on a new office complex, which will offer a total of 10,000 square meters of usable space, began on Tuesday. The six-story office building is scheduled to be completed by September 2027 stern.de reported.

On the upper floors, from the second to the fifth, offices will be set up for DB employees who are currently located in other buildings. The special highlight: The new DB Campus is to be built on the ground floor and first floor. This will serve as a central training and meeting center for DB employees. “The campus will offer space for up to 15,000 participants annually,” the statement further explains.

A center for learning and innovation

The DB Campus is being developed with a budget of around 110 million euros and has the potential to offer further training opportunities to up to 60,000 employees MDR. Around 7,600 square meters of space will be created for seminars and events, while an additional 15,000 square meters will be available for green and leisure facilities.

CEO Richard Lutz describes the campus as a “central learning and meeting place”, while Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow emphasizes the importance of the center for the railway’s personnel development. This makes Erfurt not only a central point for the railway, but also a training mecca for future traffic engineers.

What does this mean for the city?

The work requires a special construction process. Due to the subsoil conditions, the use of driven piles will result in noise pollution and slight vibrations during the construction phase. These are expected to last 20 working days. From December 2023, the floor slab will be created and the shell construction work for the stairwell towers will begin, as well deutschebahn.com reported.

In addition to the monumental layer of color on the new campus, the state development company will be involved in the development of the new district in order to further stimulate Erfurt's recovery. On top of that, up to 500 new overnight accommodations are planned to cater not only for employees but also for the increasing number of visitors to the city.

In short: Deutsche Bahn is investing heavily in the future of Erfurt, and the project promises to significantly improve the city's infrastructure. It will be exciting to see how developments continue and what impact this will have on the entire region.
