Winter time is ice time! In Hamburg, sports enthusiasts and ice hockey fans can look forward to a new ice rink facility in the sports park on Steinwiesen-Weg from the end of November 2025. This is operated by the Eimsbüttel district office and offers a variety of uses, including ice skating and playing ice hockey. The new ice surfaces are specifically intended for the clubs of the Hamburg Ice and Roller Sports Association (HERV), which can not only train there but also hold competitions. The period of use extends from the end of November 2025 to the end of March 2026, and the State Sports Office hopes to enable athletes to enjoy exciting competitions and games on the ice. Hamburg.de reports that this move significantly invigorates the city's ice response efforts.
But it's not just the new ice rink that attracts visitors to Hamburg in winter. Those too Ice Arena in Planten un Blomen, the largest open-air ice rink in Germany, will open its doors to ice skaters. Visitors can do their laps on an area that is roughly equivalent to three ice hockey rinks until mid-March. On Fridays and Saturdays, a live DJ provides atmospheric entertainment and the ice cream bistro offers many delicacies - from coffee specialties to homemade crepes.
Ice skating for everyone
The EisArena is ideally prepared for everyone. If you don't have your own skates, you can rent them on site. There are also learning aids for children for a fee. Another particularly nice aspect is the ice skating training, which takes place on Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. under the direction of European Vice Champion Heinz Germershausen - a perfect way to improve your technique and have fun!
For the ladies there is also the Lady’s Night, which takes place on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month – the first Prosecco is on the house! Another attraction is the CLUB NIGHT, which gets your dancing legs going with a live DJ on Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. To make your evening less stressful, we recommend visiting during the week, as it can often get busy on weekends.
