New Year's Eve magic in Hamburg: 9,000 celebrate on a floating stage!
Fireworks, music and a festive atmosphere: The ZDF New Year's Eve show 2026 on the Elbe in Hamburg was a complete success! Around 9,000 visitors celebrated on December 31st on the floating stage in front of the Überseequartier in HafenCity. For the first time in history, the popular event was not held in Berlin, but in the Hanseatic city, which was a reason for joy for many. The preparations for the event were brief and only lasted three months, but the result was impressive. NDR reports that The approved capacity was 12,000 people, but the overwhelming atmosphere was palpable.
The show was accompanied by the popular presenters Andrea Kiewel and Johannes B. Kerner and provided an open-air program lasting around six hours, which began at 8:15 p.m. With a mix of national and international artists, the line-up was impressive: from Johannes Oerding to Michael Patrick Kelly to Kerstin Ott, the popular acts provided unforgettable moments. DJ Felix Jaehn also got the crowd dancing, while shanty choir De Tampentrekker performed traditional sailor tunes.
The best for the New Year
A highlight was the spectacular fireworks display that was set off at midnight. Although this was shorter than in Berlin, it created a great atmosphere and was an impressive end to the year. The stage setup on the Norderelbe, mounted on pantons, provided the perfect setting for the event. The illuminated HafenCity skyline and the light reflections on the water also made the experience unforgettable. Hamburg Tourism highlights that the event was not only a celebration of music, but also a visual spectacle.
The organizers had increased the safety precautions: with crash barriers and extra security personnel. Access to the event was priced at a staggered rate: early birders could comfortably grab 32 euros, while lower prices were available through social tickets. The city of Hamburg spent 400,000 euros on the rights to use the TV images, while the event was mainly financed through ticket revenue, sponsorship and catering.
Everything about the journey
The physical well-being of the visitors was also taken into consideration. There was a wide range of food available from food trucks and drinks stands on site. However, your own food and drinks were not allowed. If you wanted to travel, we recommended using public transport, as the event tickets also count as a ticket for the HVV. The next stop was “Überseequartier” (subway U4, bus lines 602 and 111). MOPO provides information about this that there were parking options in the Westfield Shopping Center car park, but these charged fees of between 3.00 and 3.50 euros per hour.
As exciting and diverse as the event was, there was still some criticism. Some district representatives felt taken by surprise in advance and expressed their concerns in the city committee. Nevertheless, the response to the event was predominantly positive.
In summary, it can be said that the ZDF New Year's Eve show 2026 in Hamburg was a festival of music, light and communal celebration that not only said goodbye to the old year, but also sparked anticipation for the new one. The people of Hamburg knew how to skillfully celebrate their new highlight! Let's be surprised at what the next year will bring!
