On November 10, 2025, an exciting duel took place between SC Freiburg and FC St. Pauli as part of the Bundesliga. Freiburg prevailed and won the game 2-1. This defeat for St. Pauli was already the seventh in a row and therefore represents a negative record for the club. The kickers from Hamburg simply did not find their way back to their old strength, which became clear in the sealed game against Freiburg. The Rhinelanders dominated the game and finally managed to score the goals they needed.
With a clever shot in the 40th minute, Yuito Suzuki gave Freiburg the lead after capitalizing on some uncertainty from opposing goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj. Immediately after half-time, Maximilian Eggestein increased the score to 2-0. Freiburg no longer cared about Louis Oppie's goal in the 69th minute - despite a small rebellion from the St. Paulians, the score remained 2-1.
Freiburg's record players and line-up
Another bright spot for Freiburg was Christian Günter's record performance. With his 441st competitive appearance for the club, he replaced Andreas Zeyer as the record player. For the line-up, coach Julian Schuster relied on a good mix, which was evident in numerous ways on offense:

In contrast, St. Pauli was brilliant, but the final bite was missing: Nikola Vasilj in goal, supported by Wahl, Smith, Mets (82nd Ceesay), Pyrka, Sands (68th Irvine), Fujita, Oppie, Metcalfe (82nd Sinani), Kaars (59th Hountondji) and Pereira Lage, simply failed to break Freiburg's good defensive performance. Coach Alexander Blessin will continue to be required to get the team back to winning ways.
The trend in the Bundesliga
The Bundesliga itself is in constant change: with FC Bayern Munich as the financially strongest club and current champion, the league also has its promotions and relegations. In the last season 2024/2025, Holstein Kiel and VfL Bochum returned to the 2nd league, while St. Pauli fortunately secured relegation. An exciting city derby between St. Pauli and Hamburger SV is coming up in the coming 2025/2026 season, which fans can already look forward to.
According to Statista, Bayern have reclaimed the championship this season and are unchallenged at the top, while Leverkusen, who set a record of ending 2023/2024 without defeat, have taken a few steps back after winning the title last year. Harry Kane, the league's top scorer with 26 goals, remains another reason for the attention of German football fans.
So it remains to be seen whether St. Pauli will turn the corner or whether Freiburg's upward trend will continue. The next games promise pure excitement - a little light for St. Pauli, where the team has to overcome stronger opponents this season in order to finally break the negative trend.
