Ticket prices are rising: Hamburg's museums attract large exhibitions!

The state of culture in Hamburg is also reflected in the upcoming plans for the city's museums. One issue that concerns Hamburg's museums and could attract visitor numbers is admission prices. The prices in most museums will remain unchanged in 2024. It should be particularly emphasized that the Museum of Arts and Crafts (MK&G) is not planning any price increases. The single ticket remains at 14 euros, and that is certainly one reason why many art lovers will find their way there. Free tickets for children and young people under 18 will also remain in effect until 2026, which is a great advantage for families.

On the other hand, there is a price increase that is expected to come into effect in 2026. The popular miniature wonderland is increasing ticket prices for adult tickets from 20 to 22 euros, while the reduced ticket increases from 17 to 19 euros. The miniature wonderland will not only adjust admission, but also open up new model areas such as the rainforest, the Andes and the Atacama Desert. There is something coming up and the anticipation is great.

Special exhibitions in 2026

Things will be particularly exciting at the Hamburger Kunsthalle, which is planning several large exhibitions. The double show "Maria Lassnig and Edvard Munch. Painting Flow = Flow of Life" will take place from March 27th to August 30th and promises to present the works of these two important artists together for the first time. In addition, the exhibition “Skuptural. The New Galleries” from April 24, 2026 to April 11, 2027 will show over 500 sculptures and works of art from 2,500 years of art history.

It will be just as exciting in the Deichtorhallen Hamburg. Among other things, the 9th Triennale of Photography is planned from June 5th to September 22nd, 2026, which will present top-class works. But the exhibition by Huguette Caland and the exhibition by Philip Montgomery are also highlights that will certainly attract many visitors.

Diversity for art and history lovers

The Museum of Arts and Crafts (MK&G) will be dedicating itself to the photographer Hans Hansen from April 17, 2026 and has also announced a retrospective on Hella Jongerius for autumn 2026. The Museum am Rothenbaum promises with the exhibition “Cats!” an intercultural look at these fascinating animals until November 29, 2026.

The Hamburg Historical Museums Foundation will also remain true to the extensive offering in Hamburg, as admission prices in museums such as the Altonaer Museum and the Museum der Arbeit remain at 8 euros (reduced 5 euros). Prices will also remain stable in the Jenisch House and the German Harbor Museum, while the Museum of Hamburg History will remain closed until the planned reopening in autumn 2028.

A practical addition to a museum visit are audio guides, which are offered in many institutions in Hamburg and beyond. This feature ensures that even the most detailed visitors are well informed and can deepen their experiences. Various museums in Germany offer supporting themed tours, including those about specific works of art or historical events, making the visit even more enriching.

With all of these innovations and highlights, 2026 will be all about culture - one more reason to put the museums in Hamburg on your list!
