Advent highlights: Christmas markets and festivities in the region!
The pre-Christmas season is a very special chapter in the Peenetal and around Anklam. With the first weekend of Advent from November 28th to 29th, 2025, the region begins a contemplative time that is not only cozy but also full of experiences. Numerous events are coming up that will put young and old in a festive mood. Northern Courier informs you about the highlights of the weekend.
The lights will be lit in Neetzow on Saturday. From 1 p.m., visitors can buy their Christmas tree before the Anklam Land musicians provide musical accompaniment to the “annealing” at 4:30 p.m. The local sports club provides the culinary supply, which only increases the anticipation of the festive days. A contemplative gathering will also take place in Krien: a service will be celebrated in the church from 4 p.m. and then the Christmas tree will light up in the village square. Christmas decorations are on offer here and you can warm yourself at fire bowls with mulled wine and delicacies.
Festive markets and concerts
Stolpe an der Peene presents a Christmas market in the Haferscheune from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., which features a children's program and a Christmas concert by the Fährkrug musicians. Little visitors can look forward to seeing Santa Claus and there is a free children's carousel. In Sarnow, too, the church's support association is creating a festive atmosphere with an Advent singing from 5 p.m., whereby donations are requested for the restoration of the monument.
The left and right banks of the Peene are busy this weekend: While in Ducherow there is a traditional Advent concert with Anka and Nils in the church at 2 p.m., in Rubkow everything revolves around the Advent market with the alpaca idyll from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Regional specialties and handmade gifts await visitors here. Krenzow also invites you to the Advent bazaar, which opens at 10 a.m. in the Krenzower Mühle, where Knecht Ruprecht will also appear with gifts for the children.
Shining lights on Usedom
The Advent experience is rounded off on the island of Usedom, where the “island glitter” not only transforms the seaside resorts into a sparkling winter wonderland, but also delights visitors with Christmas illuminations and a festive atmosphere. During this time, the seaside resort of Ahlbeck is transformed into a land of milk and honey for all connoisseurs, with regional delicacies, mulled wine and a varied stage program. Advent is celebrated here until the beginning of January and promises a magical backdrop.
In total, people in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania expect over 50 Christmas markets - the first traditionally open after the Sunday of the Dead. For example, the largest Christmas market in the north, the one in Rostock, opens its doors on Monday. Here, visitors can look forward to many attractions, including a gourmet mile and a walk-in winter forest. NDR highlights that smaller communities also organize their own markets to bring the Christmas flair to the villages.
The Advent weekend in the Peenetal offers a colorful range of events that focus on both tradition and conviviality. Anyone who gets involved will be able to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere to the fullest while the winter lights shine in the villages.
