Revolution in Boldekow: New solar park secures 53 GWH for Vodafone!
in Boldekow, a small town at Anklam in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, the construction of an innovative solar park has been completed. Today, on July 16, 2025, the system is officially put into operation, and the numbers behind the project are impressive. The new solar park, which is operated by the energy company Iberdrola, will have over 80,000 bifacial solar modules and expected to produce more than 53 gigawatt hours of electricity annually. This is sufficient to operate around 3,000 mobile phone masts. But this energy does not flow to private customers, but only to Vodafone, one of the largest telecommunications companies in Germany .
The solar park extends over an area of 46 hectares, which corresponds approximately to the size of 65 soccer fields. The construction period was around two years and required coping with local challenges, in particular by voices against the conversion of agricultural areas. Despite these concerns, Iberdrola has proven a good hand, and the system can be visited after commissioning with guided tours .
renewable energies in the upswing
Germany has already reached half of its expansion goal for renewable energies by 2030. However, permits, especially in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, are often a major hurdle. The Solarpark Boldekow is a step in the right direction and shows how important local initiatives for the energy transition are .
The total output of the PV park is about 56 MWP and is sold to Vodafone via a bilateral acceptance contract (Power Purchase Agreement, PPA). This model ensures that the energy flows directly from the producer to the consumer, which creates long -term price stability for both sides .
economic effects and local jobs
During the entire construction and operating phase of the solar park, local jobs are also created, which should be of great benefit to the economy of the region. In addition, the municipalities expect expected property tax revenue of over 5 million euros over a period of 30 years. These income can be invested in the infrastructure and other local projects .
With the solar park in Boldekow, Iberdrola also sets a sign in the development of renewable energies in Germany, while the company is also further expanding its offshore projects in Germany. Among these projects are the Baltic Eagle with 476 MW, the Viking with 350 MW, and the windanker with 300 MW. The total investment for these offshore projects by 2026 amounts to around 3.7 billion euros .
We can therefore be curious to see how the energy landscape in northern Germany will develop in the coming years. Boldekow is a promising example of the regional implementation of sustainable energy concepts and the use of the latest technology in solar energy generation.
