Traffic chaos in Western Pomerania: More accidents than ever on federal roads!

In 2025, traffic safety on federal roads in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district will be an important issue. The current figures are worrying: as of October 14, a total of 1,464 traffic accidents had been recorded, despite recurring efforts to make the roads safer. There have already been six deaths and 303 injuries on these roads this year, underlining the urgency of this issue. The B109 and B111 in particular have proven to be particularly accident-prone, as data from Nordkurier shows.

One of the most disastrous incidents was a tragic accident on the B111 in which a mother died and her three children were seriously injured. A 68-year-old driver crossed into oncoming traffic and caused this accident. But there were also serious accidents on the B199 and B110 that did not remain without consequences. The figures for the B109 are particularly frightening, where 432 accidents were registered, including one death and 105 injuries. In another incident on the B110, six people, including three children, were injured, highlighting the danger for families on these roads.

Accident statistics and safety

The preliminary statistics up to October 2025 indicate that road safety is not sufficient in Western Pomerania-Greifswald. According to Destatis, the continuous recording and evaluation of traffic accidents is crucial for the development of traffic safety measures. The traffic statistics not only serve to identify dangerous routes, but also to optimize legislation and infrastructure.

In the analysis of the accidents, the roads in Western Pomerania-Greifswald show specific risks. The B104, which had 167 accidents with 26 injuries, has an increased risk situation. There were comparatively few accidents on the B113 (20 accidents, one injured) and the B194 (15 accidents, four injured), suggesting that some routes are safer than others.

Call for road safety

The large number of accidents affects us all. A more careful driving style, compliance with traffic rules and, if necessary, a review of the traffic infrastructure could make a decisive contribution to ensuring that these sad statistics do not continue to rise. The Anklam police station has done more educational work in recent years, but without the help of everyone the situation will hardly improve. Awareness of road safety is a crucial factor in the region.

Given the current situation, it is important that both road users and the community work together to create a safe environment for everyone. Each accident-related victim is one too many and we all have a responsibility.
