Great honor for Armin Mueller-Stahl: The versatile artist will be awarded the Golden Ox at the 35th Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Film Art Festival on May 9, 2026. Mueller-Stahl, born on December 17, 1930 in Tilsit, East Prussia, left an impression in both German states as well as Hollywood. His career began in the DEFA films, including “Deadly Mistake” and “Jacob the Liar”. After moving to West Germany, he worked with renowned directors such as Rainer Werner Fassbinder, for example on the film “Lola”. Since then he has made around 140 films, including the Oscar-nominated hit “Shine” in 1997, for which he received international recognition.

Over the years, Mueller-Stahl has received numerous important awards. These include the Grand Federal Cross of Merit with Star, the German Film Prize, the European Film Prize and the Honorary Golden Bear of the Berlinale. He was also voted East Germany's most popular actor five times in a row and eventually moved to West Berlin in 1980 before moving to the USA in 1989.
