Ummanz is introducing a tourist tax from January – tourism is on the rise!
The municipality of Ummanz is facing an important change next year: a tourist tax of 1.50 euros per person per holiday day is to be introduced from mid-January. Mayor Holger Kliewe recently announced that approval from the municipal supervisory authority is still pending. This measure is part of the efforts of the municipality, which has invested heavily in infrastructure over the last 15 years. These investments, such as the construction of new cycle paths, are not only beneficial for the locals, but also for the increasing number of tourists visiting Ummanz. The tourist tax is intended to help further secure and expand the maintenance and preservation of this infrastructure. According to information from NDR, Ummanz is now recognized as an official tourist destination, which enables the collection of tourist taxes.
What makes Ummanz so attractive for visitors? The municipality lies partly on the island of Ummanz and is the fourth largest island in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Due to its favorable location - only about 20 kilometers west of Bergen auf Rügen and close to the Schaproder Bodden and the Kubitzer Bodden - it attracts nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts. Even if it is not located directly on the bathing coast, which is heavily visited by tourists, Ummanz stands out for its excellent surfing areas and intensive nature tourism. There are not only a variety of leisure activities around the Lagoon landscape, but also the opportunity to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Western Pomerania Lagoon Landscape National Park.
Discover the beauty of nature
Ummanz offers a variety of attractions that delight visitors. These include the brick church in Waase with its impressive Antwerp carved altar from the 15th century, as well as the charming old thatched roof houses that can be found in the region. These historical buildings and the picturesque Lagoon coast invite you to linger and discover.
The uninhabited island of Heuwiese, which belongs to the municipality and has been accessible via a 250 meter long bridge since 1901, also contributes to Ummanz's unique attractiveness. Nature should not be forgotten: the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park impresses with its species-rich flora and fauna and offers numerous opportunities for outdoor activities.
The introduction of the tourist tax is not only a financial measure, but also a step towards the sustainable development of tourism in Ummanz. The initiative aims to continue to maintain the existing infrastructure and make it attractive for future guests, which can only benefit the charming place in the region.
