Safety in road traffic: Güstrow warns young drivers with an emotional crash course
Güstrow, Deutschland - The streets in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are becoming increasingly risky. As reported by [ndr.de] (https://www.ndr.de/nachrichten/Mecklenburg-Vorpommern/steigende-zahl-zahlstoten-pälmi-Schockt-mit- crash course, crash courage-100.html), the country has a worrying increase of roads: In the first few months of this year, 51 people came to life-twelve more than in the previous year. This prompted the police to organize an urgent sensitization event for novice drivers, which is known under the name "Crash Course".
Today, on July 14, 2025, more than 140 vocational students take part in this event in Güstrow. Embedded in this urgent presentation are 15 large, white wooden crosses that symbolically stand for the young road dead of last year in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Participant Svenja Körl is relieved to finally get the dangers of road traffic and expect the event to be informed about the risks that many young people often underestimate.
insights into reality
The event offers more than just shocking statistics. A police officer shares his moving experiences of accident sites, where he is often confronted with seriously injured and deceased young people. An emergency pastor and an ambulance assistant also report on her shattering experiences - this includes experiencing a failed attempt at resuscitation. These emotional stories not only leave a lasting impression on the audience, but also among the actors.
A particularly touching moment is the story of Reinhard Denkert, who brings up the death of his daughter Carolin, who was run over by a driver that was too fast in an accident. He has decided not only to speak in memory of his daughter, but also to protect others from similar fate. "I want my words to be a warning signal," he told the audience.
emotional reactions of the young people
The participants experience a wide range of emotional reactions. Some young people have tears in their eyes, while others are noticeably custody. The event offers a room to talk about these stressful topics. It simulates the rescue chain in traffic accidents and illuminates the locks that can arise from inappropriate behavior in road traffic. The message is clear: compliance with the traffic rules protects life. After the event, the active people are available for discussions to clarify any questions and fears.
The "Crash Course" campaign has existed for over 12 years and has already reached thousands of drivers. The country traffic guard supports this important project and ensures that the topic is also taken up in schools and other educational institutions. The course lasts around 1.5 hours and is a crucial experience in their traffic education for many.
The current figures from Statistics show that traffic safety is of great importance nationwide. Finally, the collection of accidents and their causes is also the basis for effective measures in legislation and traffic education. Thus, the "crash course" not only remains an event, but an important contribution to the awareness and security of young drivers.
