Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is looking for the athletes of the year 2025!
The exciting search for the 2025 athlete of the year begins in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Sports Association (LSB MV) has launched the call for applications in collaboration with the Nordkurier media group, the NDR and the Ostsee-Zeitung, which runs from now until October 31, 2025. Here, citizens are asked to suggest their favorites and thus take an active part in the sporting events in their federal state. Managing director Torsten Haverland emphasized this very clearly: “Citizen participation is important in order to reflect sporting diversity,” he explains. Because as the saying goes? “The more opinion, the more profit!”
The suggestions should contain the name, club and achievements of the respective athletes or teams and can be easily sent by email to [email protected]. The categories in which the athletes and teams are honored are diverse: best female athlete, best male athlete, best team and para-athletes. Taking into account national and international successes in 2025 plays a central role.
What awaits the nominees?
The finalists are selected by a jury made up of media representatives and LSB experts. From November 2025 the time has come: the jury will nominate five candidates in each category, which the audience can then vote on. This exciting phase runs from December 6th, 2025 to January 10th, 2026, where the candidates will appear www.mv-sportlerdesjahrs.de are visible. A look into the past
The election of the athlete of the year has been held in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since 2013 and has become an integral part of the sporting calendar year. Initially there were no special categories for para-athletes, these were only introduced in 2018. A special highlight in the history of this honor are the multiple title holders: rower Hannes Ocik and the Schweriner SC volleyball women each achieved five titles and are considered the most successful athletes in this category. In order to recognize the diversity of sporting achievements, three sports clubs are honored with the award every year.
The “Sport instead of Violence” initiative, which was launched in 2019, honored four clubs that are particularly committed to this area. What an impressive commitment and a sign that sport can be more than just competition!
So don't wait any longer, think carefully about who is one of the best athletes this year and make your suggestion. Sport connects and shows community - join in and show that the athletes and teams from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are very popular!
