150 years of Rilke: literary-musical evening in the Kulturquartier!

The anticipation of a very special event is increasing in the cultural district: December 4, 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of the birthday of the important poet Rainer Maria Rilke. This evening there will be a literary-musical event that will bring Rilke's profound world to life under the title "Whoever speaks of winning - surviving is everything". Viewers can look forward to a captivating reading by actress Barbara Schnitzler, who will present Rilke's poems and passages from his prose works, including "Malte Laurid's Brigge" and "Letters to a Young Poet." The evening will be accompanied musically by the talented pianist Michael Abramovich.

The organizers have come up with a lot of ideas: the Ms. Rilke bookstore is organizing a book table with suitable publications, so that visitors can immerse themselves in the literary world. There are various options available to all those who would like to secure their tickets: by telephone at 3981 23909-99 or conveniently by email.

A journey into Rilke's poetry

A central work that will be discussed during the evening is “The Notes of Malte Laurids Brigge”. This diary-style novel, first published in 1910, tells the story of a 28-year-old poet from a noble Danish family who lives in poverty in Paris. In this work, Rilke impressively describes the horrors of the city and the emotional wounds of its residents. The first diary entries address the misery and various facets of life in Paris, while the later entries give flashbacks to Brigge's childhood in Denmark, which gives the narrative a special depth.

Rilke himself wrote another important text, “Letters to a Young Poet,” in which he shares profound thoughts about writing and life. These works encourage readers to question their own thoughts and feelings and connect with poetry.
