Pure Advent atmosphere: Neustrelitz celebrates handicrafts and encounters!
On the first Sunday of Advent, December 1st, 2025, the beginning of the Christmas season drew many people to the cities and towns of northern Germany. In Neustrelitz, the weekend started with the traditional court magic and a craft market in the old tiled stove factory. Susanne Fee from Neustrelitz was among the many artisans who presented their handmade wooden items. Her husband worked skillfully on these products all year round, and their stands were a popular stop for interested visitors. In this warm-hearted atmosphere, people talked shop about the Christmas season.
“It was really nice to exchange ideas with other artisans and see many familiar faces,” reports Susanne. Despite the difficulties in photographing their work - many people crowded around the stands - the mood was consistently positive. “The events on the Advent weekend are always a highlight, but perhaps they should be spread out over the entire Christmas season,” she suggests. Ultimately, it is a challenge to coordinate all these cultural highlights without there being a competition for the best spots. “The Christmas season is a time of community and joy, and you should be able to enjoy that to the fullest,” she adds.
Variety of Christmas markets in Northern Germany
The previous weekend was filled with events not only in Neustrelitz. Numerous Christmas markets in other cities in northern Germany also opened their doors. Several Christmas markets took place in Dresden, including the medieval Christmas market in the Stallhof and the winter market on Lommatzscher Straße. Atmospheric markets were also organized in Meißen, Cottbus and Leipzig and attracted numerous visitors who got in the mood for the festive season. The following Christmas markets were offered, among others:
- Mittelalter-Weihnachtsmarkt Stallhof, Dresden
- Wintermarkt, Dresden
- Meißner Weihnachtsmarkt, Meißen
- Weihnachtsmarkt Cottbus
- Weihnachtsmarkt Felsenkeller, Leipzig
- Altenburger Weihnachtsmarkt
- Aschersleber Weihnachtsmarkt
- Quedlinburger Weihnachtsmarkt
- Naumburger Weihnachtsmarkt
- Dessauer Weihnachtsmarkt
The variety of events helps to keep the pre-Christmas spirit alive in every corner of the region. As with the fairytale traditional costume markets in Lübeck, where cultural highlights such as the Museum Night and the Theater Night regularly attract visitors, this time has a lot to offer culturally. Here, people of all ages and backgrounds find opportunities to be inspired by the artful atmosphere and festive hustle and bustle.
The overwhelming range of events
The Advent season offers numerous highlights for anyone interested in art and culture. The annual Brahms Festival in Lübeck, which attracts music lovers from all over the world, is also just around the corner. Events such as the Theater Night and the Literature Night offer deep insights into regional cultures and make visitors' hearts beat faster. The spirit of joy and community floats in the air, helping giants and travelers alike feel welcome.
