Construction begins on the Peene Bridge in Wolgast: the federal government finally gives the green light!

Things are getting exciting in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: the funds for the construction of the Wolgaster Peene Bridge are still pending and nervousness is growing. Together, the project is expected to cost around 500 million euros, which represents a huge jump compared to the estimated 140 million euros in 2021.

Construction time and plans

The plans are to begin awarding contracts immediately after the funds have been released. Construction is scheduled to begin next year, 2026. Economics Minister Blank is confident that the bridge will be completed by the end of the decade. At one of his last meetings, Merz explained that the Wolgast bypass was also being pushed forward unceasingly. This is particularly important in order to relieve through traffic in Wolgast - especially in the summer months, which are busy with tourism.

Completion of the bypass, which was originally planned for 2026, is now targeted for 2028. Many eyes are now focused on the development of the next steps, and the population is hoping for rapid implementation.
