Citizen participation in Feldberg: Take part on July 5th!
An exciting event on the topic of citizen participation will take place in Feldberg on July 5th. Under the motto “I want to have a say in our community – how does that work?” All interested parties are invited to share their thoughts on local issues and discover new approaches to participation. From 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., various areas of citizen participation will be discussed in the Feldberg parish room, Prenzlauer Straße 18. As Nordkurier reports, the organizers are expecting a lot of interest.
The event is aimed at everyone who is enthusiastic about citizen participation, citizens' initiatives, advisory boards and future workshops. The program includes, among other things, current information about citizens' councils and the opportunity to speak to representatives of the administration. Guests like Jana Wolff from the Climate Alliance Schwerin will bring exciting insights - she will report on a successful citizens' initiative for free local transport. Thomas Radke from the Future Action MV initiative gives us insights into the experiences with a citizens' assembly in Malchin. Robert Gardlowski, the community leader, will give an overview of the local participation opportunities.
Citizens' councils as a trend in politics
Citizens' councils, a pioneering instrument for promoting political participation, are currently on everyone's lips. As bundestag.de explains, they offer citizens a platform to discuss political questions, develop proposed solutions and formulate recommendations to politicians. Bundestag President Bärbel Bas sees this as an opportunity to strengthen trust in politics and revitalize democracy.
Citizens' assemblies are not without controversy. Critics warn that they could act as a kind of secondary parliament. But for supporters, they represent a valuable addition to representative democracy. It is important to ask the right questions and reflect the diversity of opinions. From a historical perspective, such forms of co-determination are not new - the guilds were already demanding co-determination rights in the Middle Ages, and with the introduction of the Prussian city code in 1808, the first basis for civil rights was created, as the bpb states.
Invitation to help shape it
The Feldberg event not only offers the opportunity for discussion, but also for practical participation. The organizers are looking forward to lively exchanges and creative ideas. No previous knowledge is required and your physical well-being is taken care of - small snacks and drinks are waiting for the participants.
This initiative is supported by the Feldberger Seenlandschaft Citizens' Forum and funded by the Federal Ministry of the Interior's “Talking to Each Other” program. So if you feel like working on local issues and actively shaping them, then you should mark July 5th in your calendar!
See you in Feldberg – when it comes to working together to create a lively and inclusive community!
