Dragon boat race in Neustrelitz: Schulzhelm wins gold and is thrilled!

On October 21st, the 21st Dragon Boat Festival took place on the beautiful Glambecker Lake in Neustrelitz, organized by the Strelitz Dragons and WSV Neustrelitz. These special competitions attracted 17 dragon boat teams who wanted to compete in both the sporting and fun areas. The atmosphere quickly heated up as regional sports teams and creative corporate teams competed against each other while the spectators loudly cheered them on.

The team “SCHULZHELM, The Construction Brigade” was also one of the exciting participants. This sociable group is made up of employees of master roofer Marko Schulz from Strasen and civil engineer Marco Helm from Priepert. With their enthusiasm and team spirit, they have already caused a sensation at the 100th anniversary of SV Union Wesenberg, where they took first place. Now they were ready to take on the challenge again. Under the motto “Helmet on, paddle in, we’re tearing up the water!” The 24 participants, aged between 13 and 51, made a real racket on the water.

Victory and medals

The team's sporting achievements were impressive: they secured the gold medal in three heats over 300 meters. They took third place in the 1000 meter events and took fifth place in the fun group in the triathlon, which consisted of swimming, running and paddling. The team's goal was not to finish last, which they accomplished brilliantly. Mayor Cindy Kiewitz-Schade congratulated the participants on their achievements and praised the successful event, the beautiful weather and the excellent organization.

A celebration for the whole family

The Dragon Boat Festival was more than just a competition - it was a big family event with a guaranteed dose of fun. The event attracted numerous spectators who created a good atmosphere. The audience was invited to support the teams loudly, while their physical well-being was well taken care of. Admission to the festival was free and visitors could follow the competitions in a relaxed atmosphere.

Such dragon boat races are not only a highlight for the region, but also have a long tradition. They originally originated in China and are still valued today as a form of team sport. Participants and spectators experience a unique event that promotes team spirit and collaboration. And so the Glambecker See once again became the setting for a top-class water fight, where not only the paddlers but also the spectators got their money's worth.

Whether on water or on land – the dragon boat races in Neustrelitz have once again proven that they are a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the community and make new friends.

Strelitzius reports that 17 dragon boat teams took part in this year's event.
