Three cyclists from Schwerin: 1000 kilometer challenge in MV!
The anticipation for the upcoming cycling highlight is growing! On June 20, 2025, three cyclists from Schwerin, Sven Gerloff (56), Ronny Wöhler (53) and Steffen Skroblien (56), will start a great adventure: the race “Around Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania”. The route, which covers almost 1000 kilometers with 4100 meters of altitude, will represent an immense challenge for the participants. “We respect the track, but training together excites us,” they share. Northern Courier reports that the three men decided to take part in the big cycling race as a team in order to motivate each other.
The 1000 kilometer long route leads through the enchanting landscape of Mecklenburg, past idyllic lakes and small towns. The Mecklenburg Lakes round (MSR) serves as the perfect training. This event, which already attracts thousands of cycling enthusiasts, covers 300 kilometers and caters for all ages and abilities. Participants of all experience levels appreciate the sporting challenge and the opportunity to strengthen their own self-confidence.
An intensive training
The three people from Schwerin have established themselves as real endurance athletes and already have several thousand kilometers on their profiles. The MSR is certainly not a random route - when they started at 10 p.m. they had already covered 150 kilometers. They covered the 300 kilometers with an altitude of more than 1,500 meters at an average speed of 30.6 km/h. “It was a real grind, but also a sign of our fitness,” says Gerloff. After the event, however, one of the athletes returns due to fatigue, while the other two continue and arrive in Schwerin after 587 kilometers.
After returning home, it becomes apparent that the three men, who work as entrepreneurs, service managers and customer advisors in their everyday lives, have found a good knack for finding the optimal balance between work and sport. “The training sessions on the bike not only promote fitness, but also our team spirit,” adds Wöhler.
The big goal in mind
The upcoming race requires careful planning. The team has to organize itself very well because the meals have to be arranged independently. Last year, the winning team needed 31 hours and 11 minutes to complete the route, while the best individual starter from Switzerland clocked 39 hours and 52 minutes. The pressure to prove yourself in competition is increasing.
For all cyclists in the country, the MSR is a real highlight in the calendar. Over 100 cycling events take place in Germany every year, with competitions in the mountains of Bavaria or in idyllic Baden-Württemberg being very popular. In addition to the Gerloff, Wöhler and Skroblien team, there will certainly be many enthusiastic cyclists in the coming weeks who are looking forward to this fascinating event.
