Ice-cold defeat: VFC Anklam remains without a home win against Neustrelitz!
The weather may be cool, but the atmosphere in the Werner Seelenbinder Stadium was one of great tension. On November 23, 2025, VFC Anklam had the opportunity to record its first home win of the current 2025/26 state league season. But things turned out completely differently. The encounter against TSG Neustrelitz II ended with a heavy 1:4 defeat, which dealt an ice-cold blow to the Anklamers. They are now in third-to-last place in the table, right after Kickers JuS, who suffered a 0:6 at the same time and thus fell to last place.
The match started promisingly for the Neustrelitz team, who created more chances and challenged VFC goalkeeper Max Lemke several times. In the 36th minute, a direct free kick from the guests gave the team a 1-0 lead, which, according to VFC player-coach Tom Fraus, was completely justified. Above all, his team's defensive behavior left a lot to be desired and led to two more goals conceded after the break, which came in the 47th and 49th minutes. Only Jan-Patrick Bruhns managed to score the goal to make it 1:3 in the 52nd minute, but the deficit was already too big.
Lack of efficiency in attack
The first half gave the spectators an idea that something was wrong. Despite Anklamer's efforts, the offensive actions remained largely ineffective. The team didn't exactly shine with creative play and failed to convert the opportunities they had into goals. Captain Lukas Behm tried to motivate his teammates, but Neustrelitz's dominance was overwhelming. Not only did they manage to maintain control of the game, but they also consistently took advantage of the Anklam defense's negligence.
In the final phase of the game, the visitors' fourth goal came from an own goal from Bruhns in stoppage time, which sealed the defeat. At the end of the game, the Anklam players had to leave the pitch with their heads hanging. VFC Anklam continues next weekend. The team will face Blau-Weiß Baabe, who are currently in eighth place and therefore represent another challenge.
The VFC Anklam – a short history
Vorpommersche FC Anklam was founded in 2008 and has since established itself in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state league. However, the history of the club goes back to the post-war period, when the first Anklam football players took part in championships as early as 1946. Over the years the club has experienced some ups and downs. In the 2024/25 season, Anklam was able to reach 5th place, but the current situation suggests that the team urgently needs every point to escape the relegation zone. The stadium in Anklam has space for 10,000 spectators and the potential to attract many fans during good games.
The last games for the Anklam team were characterized by fighting spirit, but also by a certain inability to assert themselves against strong opponents. A change in strategy could perhaps help, especially since the competition in the league will not sit back. When the game against Blau-Weiß Baabe comes up next Saturday, the team will do everything in its power to inspire the fans with a win again.
