Together instead of alone: meeting point for seniors in Neustrelitz!
In a world that often seems rushed and impersonal, there are initiatives that promote togetherness and revive a sense of community. Such a meeting will take place next Wednesday, July 9th, in Neustrelitz. Under the motto “Open the door!” Andrea Apmann, project employee at the Institute for Social Research and Vocational Training, invites people aged 60 and over who feel lonely and have a desire for community. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Strelitzer Str. 2-4, on the second floor at Lidl, where there is an elevator.
The goal of the kick-off meeting is clear: to make contacts and promote an exchange about interests, hobbies and skills. There is also a selection of books and small things available for swapping and giving away, ideal for personal networking. “We want to create a space where people can come together again,” explains Apmann. The artist Cornelia Kestner will also be present and present a small exhibition of her pictures. Drinks and small snacks ensure your physical well-being.
Loneliness in old age – a serious issue
The importance of such meetings cannot be overestimated. According to AOK, loneliness has serious consequences for the quality of life and health of older people. People who experience long-term loneliness tend to experience behavioral changes such as less exercise, poorer sleep and increased smoking rates. Stress from isolation can lead to an increase in the stress hormone cortisol, which increases the long-term risk of cardiovascular disease and other health problems.
It is therefore important to reduce resistance that makes social contacts difficult. Around 65 percent of seniors encounter barriers that can lead to social isolation, such as mobility restrictions or a lack of support when using public transport, as Rentner24 reports. A common contact point could help to overcome these barriers and create access to social activities. Strategies such as group discounts or advisory services can provide valuable support here.
Together instead of alone
The meeting in Neustrelitz is a step in the right direction. Loneliness is a serious phenomenon that has a direct impact on the life satisfaction of older people. Innovative solutions, such as digital platforms and outreach counseling services, help seniors stay in touch and make new friends. A holistic approach is necessary to meet the different needs of older people and enable them to lead an active social life.
Anyone interested is cordially invited to take part in this meeting and possibly make new acquaintances. Especially in our fast-moving times, it is crucial to give the people behind the numbers and statistics room to develop. Take this opportunity to beat loneliness!
