Awakened: Grand Ducal Palais opens after 100 years!
Neustrelitz, Deutschland - On June 29, 2025, a newly built place will open its gates in Neustrelitz for enjoyment and relaxation: the *Grand Ducal Palais *, which will be receded after more than 100 years. The construction, which was built between 1913 and 1915 under the architect Paul Schondorf and shines in the neoclassical style, was once the private residence of the Grand Duke Adolf Friedrich VI. by Mecklenburg-Strelitz. After his mysterious disappearance in 1918, the villa was used differently over the decades, including as widow's palais, state library and even as a music school.
But now you could say: "It is going up again!" The new owner, Andreas Krumme, has extensively restored the palace. Historical stucco and original parquet floors were lovingly prepared, while modern technology has been cleverly integrated, so that a unique symbiosis of historical flair and contemporary comfort is created. This mixture makes the hotel a special experience that is offered to its guests.
unique offers and space for events
The boutique hotel will include a total of 25 rooms and suites that are consistently available from the first day of opening. In addition, guests can look forward to the restaurant * Strelitzia * under the direction of chef Torsten Räth, who serves innovative regional cuisine. The * bar men's room * invites you to linger for a convivial hour, while the wellness area with pool and saunas ensure relaxation.
The premises of the palace are not only intended for hotel guests. Two magnificent salons offer space for events: The * Palais Salon * holds up to 120 people, while the * Marble Salon * is used for intimate celebrations with up to 22 people. So no wish remains unfulfilled, whether for weddings, conferences or other celebrations.
The story behind the palace
For the curious visitor there is also a historical insight: The park of the palace, which is designed in English style, was redesigned during the First World War and briefly served as a arable land to help the hungry population. The dramatic death of the Grand Duke remains a shadow play in history, surrounded by speculation about suicide or murder. The funeral on the castle island of Mirow and the later diverse uses of the palace show how complex the history of this place is.
An important chapter in the history of the Grand Ducal Palace began in 2003 when the building was sold for 100,000 euros to house a business school for Asian students. But the project failed, and the villa fell into other hands several times until it came to Andreas Krumme's care in 2021. With a clear plan, this initiated the renovation that has been in full swing since August 2021.
With the soon opening of the Grand Ducal Palace, Neustrelitz will not only receive a new attraction, but also a place where history and modernity are harmoniously interwoven. On the banks of the Zierker See, a future destination for those seeking treasures and gourmets is created, which should be very popular. Be ready for a trip into the past and at the same time in the present - June 29 will be a public holiday in the heart of Neustrelitz!
