The history of the club

SV Union Wesenberg was founded in 1925 and has changed its name several times over the years before finding its current title. The club currently has 467 members and offers a wide range of sports such as football, canoeing, bowling, boxing, athletics and much more. The first beginnings of the club's history go back to when the sports field at Woblitzsee and the first gymnasium were built between 1921 and 1925. However, the gymnasium fell victim to a fire in 1945, which marked another turning point in the club's history.

SV Union Wesenberg's greatest successes include several milestones, such as the first athletics festival in 1927 and the district championship for the first football team in the 1952/53 season. The friendly match against 1. FC Union Berlin in 1977, which took place in front of 1,500 spectators, is particularly memorable.

Club culture as social glue

Sports clubs like SV Union Wesenberg not only play a central role in leisure and health sports, but are also important social institutions. They promote values such as fair play, tolerance and teamwork and integrate people from different age groups and social backgrounds. A report from Kübler Sport highlights how sports clubs create spaces for community and strengthen social interaction - and this is particularly important in these uncertain times.

Preparations for the big anniversary are already in full swing and the anticipation is palpable. If you would like more information about the festivities and the diverse program, you can find it on the club's own website www.union-wesenberg.com.
