Daycare children pull with handcarts: Thanksgiving donations for those in need!

On Thursday, October 10, 2025, the sun shone over Neustrelitz when around 90 children from the St. Elisabeth Catholic daycare center paraded through Strelitzer Straße with two handcarts full of food. Their goal: the table in Borwinheim in order to make a valuable contribution to the daycare center's Thanksgiving festival week. In the last few days, the children had been collecting diligently, supported by generous donations from their parents, to supply the food bank with fresh food. In contrast to previous years, in which the donations were brought to the church, this year the handover took place directly to the food bank employees, who were thrilled by the amount of donations.

The Tafel in Neustrelitz plays an important role in the city by providing supportive food to around 60 people in need in the center of the city. The daycare team was delighted with the active participation of parents and the large amounts of donations. “Togetherness, sharing and gratitude are central values that we want to convey to the children,” said a representative of the daycare center. This is not only visible in the annual campaign, but is firmly integrated into the educational work.

Thanksgiving and fellowship

“Golden October” is in full swing and the harvest season brings joy and learning opportunities for children. In cooler temperatures, children have the opportunity to explore nature: they collect chestnuts, cones and colorful leaves as they wander through the autumnal scenery of the city. The topics in the groups range from the question of why the leaves on trees change color, to the path from grain to bread, to the revered autumn holidays such as Thanksgiving and St. Martin.

Thanksgiving itself is an integral part of the daycare center's activities. Not only does it provide a great opportunity to celebrate responsible stewardship of nature, but it also teaches the importance of sharing. “We are looking forward to many colorful and active days in autumn,” reports the daycare center on its website, where the children’s daily experiences are also documented.

Conclusion: A heart for the community

The Thanksgiving campaign by the children of the St. Elisabeth Catholic daycare center shows how much warmth and community spirit there is in Neustrelitz. Handing it over directly to the food bank is not only a sign of appreciation for the work of the volunteers, but also a strong signal to the children that their actions make a difference. Where children serve others with joy and conviction, the community thrives, and that is what counts.
