The fire department in Altstrelitz will soon be looking forward to a new fire station. Again Northern Courier reported, the draft has already been presented. The new building will be built at the roundabout on Carl-Meier-Straße in the Neustrelitz district and is intended to provide even better support to the emergency services in their important work.
The Baukonzept engineering firm from Neubrandenburg developed the plans, and in close consultation with the Altstrelitz Volunteer Fire Department, all of the important functions of the new equipment house were taken into account. A single-story building complex is planned that will provide space for various functional rooms, including changing rooms, offices, showers and training rooms. What is particularly pleasing is that the building is designed to accommodate 75 emergency personnel, including 60 men and 15 women in separate changing rooms. The youth fire brigade also has its place in the new building.
Modern equipment for the emergency services
The vehicle hall of the new tool shed will offer generous capacity: It is designed for six emergency vehicles, and additional parking spaces are planned for larger trailers such as boats. A wash bay will also be part of the building, and the vehicle hall can even be expanded if necessary. Following the vehicle hall, workshop rooms and storage rooms are provided to meet the requirements of the fire department.
Another important aspect is the 38 parking spaces planned outside for the firefighters. The property also offers sufficient space for additional parking space should this be necessary. A practice area for the youth department has also been taken into account in the plans. The cost estimate for this extensive new building is almost 7.2 million euros.
Funding and support
There is already a prospect of support from the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to finance this important construction project, even if the exact amount of funding is currently unclear. The district has also guaranteed funding in three tranches of 250,000 euros each. Such measures are essential to ensure the high demands on the safety and health of fire brigade members. In December 2023, the city council decided to make an over-plan payment of 120,000 euros for the new building, which will be used for planning services, such as Wittich contributes. These funds come from the “IGS Inclusion/Fire Protection” measure and the tender for the planning services will take place at the beginning of 2024.
The new equipment house in Altstrelitz underlines the efforts of the city and the district to ensure that the fire department is professionally equipped. This is not only important for the safety of the emergency services, but also for the protection of citizens in the region.
