Neustrelitz on the move: Citizens pitch in for clean nature trails!
On June 28, 2025, the Neustrelitz Greens successfully organized a cross-generational city cleaning campaign in Kiefernheide. With an impressive field of participants of 25 citizens aged 2 to 70, the commitment to the environment was clearly noticeable. The aim was to clear the nature trails of rubbish. Discarded furniture, paint cans, improperly disposed of trash and even broken glass came to light. Enno Zehe, spokesman for the Neustrelitz Green Party, emphasized the enthusiasm of all age groups and pointed out the central role of environmental protection. The campaign was supported not only by the Direktionhof Neustrelitz, but also by environmental associations such as NABU and BUND.
What was particularly pleasing was the spontaneous commitment of a local resident who repaired one of the paths himself. According to [Strelitzius](https://strelitzius.com/2025/07/01/neustrelitzer-gruene-organisieren- Successful-reinigungsaktion-fuer-saubere-naturpfade/), this cooperation and the high level of voluntariness are important signs of community cohesion and the will to protect the environment.
Outlook for upcoming environmental days
The positive feedback and the success of the cleaning campaign prompted the Greens to plan further actions. As part of this, we aim to take part in the upcoming Coastal Cleanup Day. Details will be published shortly. Initiatives like these are part of a growing environmental awareness that is gaining momentum around the world. Recircle has created a list of seven important environmental days that offer exciting opportunities for active participation in environmental protection.
- 20. September: World Cleanup Day – globaler Tag zum Müllsammeln, bei dem Ehrenamtliche gesucht werden.
- 26. Januar: Tag der Umweltbildung – Fokus auf das Bewusstsein der Kinder für Umweltthemen.
- 18. März: Internationaler Weltrecyclingtag – Recycling als Schlüssel zu einer nachhaltigen Zukunft.
- 22. März: Weltwassertag – Betonung von Wassersparen und nachhaltigen Produkten.
- 22. April: Earth Day – globaler Umwelttag, der Projekte zur Erhaltung der Biodiversität fördert.
- 5. Juni: Weltumwelttag – bedeutendster Umwelttag der Vereinten Nationen mit jährlich wechselndem Thema.
Volunteer work in climate protection
Another aspect that underlines people's desire for the future is volunteer work in environmental protection, which is also becoming increasingly important internationally. Projects in countries like Ghana use sustainable methods to produce charcoal, while in Nepal recycled paper is produced from elephant dung. Initiatives such as those promoted by Freiwilligenarbeit offer numerous opportunities to actively contribute to combating climate change and to make new friends at the same time.
By taking part in these environmental days and volunteer projects, you not only make a contribution to environmental protection, but also raise your own awareness. It is clear: every effort, no matter how small, counts in the fight for our nature and our climate.
