Neustrelitz WSV canoeists shine at the exciting season finale!
The last race of the 2025 competition season took place in Neubrandenburg last Saturday. The athletic competition, part of the MV Cup, brought together numerous canoeists, both from junior and competitive sports. The WSV Unit Neustrelitz presented itself from its best side that day and was able to look back on many successes.
Successful participants of the WSV unit Neustrelitz
The presentation of the club candidates was particularly pleasing: Verena Krüger, Hedy Hollnagel, Raili Malchow and Miriam Kiewitz each secured first place in their categories. The results of the other athletes were also impressive: Ephram Heidrich and Christoph Georgi took 3rd and 2nd place respectively. Even the youngest members of the club, Marfa Borovska, Bene Ahrend and Lennard Koppers, were able to win medal places despite their limited competition experience.
The starters' performances were consistently solid and the athletes were satisfied with their progress. An emotional highlight was the 10x100 meter relay, in which the WSV Neustrelitz team won bronze. In the overall ranking of the MV Cup 2025, WSV Unit Neustrelitz came in second place, only beaten by the strong athletes from SC Neubrandenburg.
A promising year with sporting goals
A look at the individual ratings reveals the successes achieved in more detail:
- Jonas Kruck – 3. Platz (Jahrgang 2015)
- Ephram Heidrich – 2. Platz (Jahrgang 2015)
- Verena Krüger – 1. Platz (Jahrgang 2015)
- Raili Malchow – 2. Platz (Jahrgang 2013)
- Hedy Hollnagel – 3. Platz (Jahrgang 2014)
The WSV is now deep into planning for the next few weeks of training until the end of the year in order to optimally prepare for the coming 2026 season. This traditionally opens with a swimming competition and an athletic competition in Neustrelitz.
Sport and community spirit as a basis
In addition to these local successes, the importance of sport on a broader level is also becoming increasingly clear. The Federal Ministry of the Interior supports German athletes in order to optimally promote them on the international stage. The support of top athletes has been guaranteed for years by the dual system, which combines training and a sporting career. Over 765 athletes have already celebrated success in this way and at the same time found a perspective in the police service.
Loyalty and fairness are values that are upheld in both sport and the police service. The Federal Police's training plan was specifically tailored to the needs of top-level sport, which provides valuable support for athletes in the police and security sectors.
Even though there is still much to be done in the world, from the successes in Neubrandenburg to the efforts of the Federal Police, sport remains a unifying element in our community.
