Mecklenburg Lake District Pilgrimage Route: Search for overnight stays!
The heart of pilgrims beats in the idyllic Mecklenburg Lake District region. According to Nordkurier, over 1000 pilgrims have used the local pilgrimage route since 2014. Every year, an average of 100 hikers venture on the 230 kilometer long route, which starts from Friedland and leads around the picturesque Tollensesee and finally ends in Mirow. The route, marked with the familiar yellow shell on a blue background, offers just the right amount of isolation and relaxation without having to fly to Santiago de Compostela.
Felicitas Rohde-Schaeper, pilgrim companion in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, looks after the pilgrims with a lot of commitment. She leads the pilgrimage route and has had her own pilgrim accommodation for 14 years, which accommodates 10 to 15 guests annually. In addition to offering accommodation, Rohde-Schaeper also helps with route planning and finding accommodation. She notes that there is a lack of overnight accommodation between Fürstenberg and Mirow, via places like Priepert, Drosedow and Diemitz. Pilgrims are primarily looking for simple and affordable accommodation, for example in the form of mattresses in the house or a tent in the garden with toilet and washing facilities available.
The path for every pilgrim
The pilgrimage route is suitable for both beginners and experienced hikers and is divided into western and eastern routes in Neubrandenburg. The western route leads via Neustrelitz, while the eastern route runs partly through the Müritz National Park and over Fürstenberg. The destination, Mirow, is south of the Müritz. A special feature is the expansion of the route in 2023, which will allow connection to the major pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela.
The hiking stages are ideal for shorter pilgrimages and range from 13 to 20 kilometers per day. Pilgrims can enjoy the stages to their fullest, with some sections easily accessible by train. This makes it possible to go on a trip even on the weekend and have profound experiences. Despite the picturesque landscape, not all sections are blessed with shopping opportunities; It is therefore advisable to get provisions in good time. Some sections also have their pitfalls when it comes to the cell phone network - offline maps are therefore a good idea.
Easy and varied pilgrimage
For anyone interested in a pilgrimage, the website of the Mecklenburg Lake District Tourism Association offers comprehensive information. On Mecklenburgische Seenplatte you will find, among other things, helpful tips about the routes and many details about accommodation options. Whether for a short stopover or a pilgrimage lasting several days, the Mecklenburg Lake District enchants and offers a place to slow down. Anyone who can offer overnight accommodation or would like to go on a pilgrimage themselves is warmly invited to contact Felicitas Rohde-Schaeper. You can discuss accommodation offers by email [email protected] or by phone on 015150441932.
