Schlosshotel Neustrelitz: A dream from the past comes true!

Big things are happening in Neustrelitz! The conversion of the old music school in the Grand Ducal Palace into an impressive castle hotel is nearing completion. The ceremonial opening will take place on June 29, 2025 and the anticipation among the residents and especially among the former students is palpable. Gabriele Thom, who had great ambitions for the palace, could not hold back her tears of joy when she saw how beautiful the hotel had become, reports the SVZ.

The castle hotel, which is now entering the pictorial history of the Grand Duchy's former glorious times, will present itself with 25 individually designed rooms and numerous amenities. A restaurant, a bar and a wellness area with a swimming pool and several saunas offer extensive opportunities for recreation and relaxation. The special feature is the historic stuccowork and original floors, which have been carefully restored, while modern technology has been incorporated to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The integration team under Manja Westermann ensures that guests experience discreet hospitality. The hotel is a real enrichment for both “cultured slow-downers” and “modern aristocrats”. Northern Courier reported.

A place full of history

The palace itself has a long history, dating back to the residence of Grand Duke Adolf Friedrich VI. reaches back. Originally it was the music school, known for its high quality of education and excellent teachers, who were often musicians from the theater. Many students who were taught here in the 1950s went on to have careers in orchestras in Germany and some, like actor Peer Augustinski, left a lasting impression. Peter Schultz, a co-organizer of the former students' class reunions, reports on the regular meetings that have been taking place since 2006 and is visibly moved by the transformation of the building into the current form of the castle hotel.

The restoration of the palace began in 2021 after it was put out to public tender in 2020. Andreas Krumme, who had already restored the historic “Wildhof”, was awarded the contract for this important project. Work is being done to preserve the roots and identity of the house while at the same time incorporating innovative ideas. For example, chef Torsten Räth has created “country-fine cuisine with regional ingredients” in the Strelitzia restaurant, which has space for 60 indoor and 100 terrace seats.

A reunion of old friends

For former students, like the Thom family from Berlin, the opening of the castle hotel is also an opportunity to revive memories. Erich Thom, a former student and now a professional musician, enjoyed his studies at the music school and was enthusiastic about the idea of returning to his old school. The wish to visit the palace can now be fulfilled and a repeat of the class reunions is already planned.

This return to roots makes it clear that the castle hotel serves not only as accommodation, but also as a place that honors the past while creating future memories. The opening on June 29th symbolizes a new beginning and an exciting future in Neustrelitz.
