Fast Internet for Milmersdorf: Fiber optic expansion started with a groundbreaking ceremony!
Today a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the fiber optic network was celebrated in Milmersdorf. Telekom representatives and Mayor Elke Grabowski were on site to launch the important project. How Northern Courier Reportedly, fiber optic cables have already been laid in the ground, laying the foundation for a modern Internet.
The joint venture GlasfaserPlus, consisting of Deutsche Telekom and IFM Investors, will expand the infrastructure in the community. 236 addresses and 477 households will receive a direct fiber optic connection into the home. In front of the community's households there is now a stretch of nine kilometers of civil engineering work and three kilometers of laid fiber optic cables, which are being implemented by the TeleMedia company. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
The advantages of fiber optic expansion
Mayor Grabowski highlights the many advantages: fast, stable internet not only improves the quality of life, but also has a positive impact on property values in the region. However, a fiber optic connection is not automatically given - the people of Milmersdorf have to actively book a connection with Telekom in order to benefit from these advantages.
So far, 34 households have registered for the free connection. Customer advisors like Jonas Brehmer and Leon Mohr are already on the road to offer those interested comprehensive information about fiber optic connections.
Fiber optic: A future-proof network
The importance of fiber optic technology cannot be overstated. It offers the highest theoretical data transfer rates and is considered a pioneering broadband technology that is less susceptible to interference compared to DSL and cable networks. While the proportion of fiber optic connections is slowly increasing in Germany, it is currently around 11 percent Statista. In an international comparison, Germany is in 36th place in the OECD ranking. In order to catch up, the federal government has initiated the gigabit strategy, which aims to connect half of all households to the fiber optic network by the end of 2025.
Telekom has already advanced the fiber optic expansion in Milmersdorf and plans to continue the expansion continuously. However, the success of these measures also depends on the regional infrastructure and building regulations. Telecom recommends registering for a fiber optic tariff even for expansion stages that have not yet started or are planned in order to benefit from future speeds.
At a time when digital networking is essential, the fiber optic expansion in Milmersdorf will be a real game changer not only for the residents, but also for the entire region.
