Students get a taste of careers: dream job or bad decision?
The ninth and tenth grade students at the Neustrelitz Carolinum High School went on an exciting journey of discovery before the summer holidays. With practical experience in various professions, they want to find out which activities suit them and what future prospects are available to them. Northern Courier reports that the intern Tilda Berendes-Pätz played a central role in the selection of industries. This year, the students are showing a particularly high level of interest in the professional world, and that is urgently needed because there are around 330 recognized training occupations in Germany.
Internships are an excellent opportunity to examine your own career choice. Internship planner emphasizes that these experiences not only provide insight into professional life, but also help clarify future decisions. In fact, internships are possible in almost every training occupation and enable students to deal with the wide-ranging opportunities, advantages and disadvantages of different professions.
Practical insights
The individual internships show a diverse range of interests and career paths. Emilia Nethe (16) works at the “Surf-Hecht” surfing school in Boek, where she puts up posters, scrubs boats and supervises surfing courses. Her decision was influenced by her aunt, and she consciously preferred a relaxed job to an office job.
Wanda Frankiw (16) decided to do an internship in the family business at Fischerhütte Feldberg. Here she cuts ingredients, prepares salads and helps wash dishes. She chose a company because she is still unsure about her professional future.
A completely different picture emerges for Hinda Hildebrandt (16), who spends her time at the construction consulting company BBG. Here she accompanies her mother on construction sites and examines the soil layers for pollutants. Her interest in nature is clearly evident in her curiosity about how environmental factors affect the soil.
Insight into everyday school life
Elsa Neumann (16) is allowed to prepare lessons herself at the Carolinum high school and thus gain a realistic insight into the teaching profession. Your motivation to become a teacher will be further strengthened by the practical experience.
Pia Hänsch (16) is also on an interesting path. She works for a speech therapist at the children's center in Neubrandenburg and carries out language training with both children and older people. Her goal is to become a speech therapist herself, and she will gain valuable insights into this professional field during her internship.
What the students learn in their internships will not only have a lasting influence on their decision to choose a career, but also make their first contacts in the world of work Internships career orientation emphasized. It also becomes clear how important it is to think about your own professional interests early on and to be willing to try out different options. The students' enthusiasm for their internships could set the course for a successful professional career and is an essential step on the way to working life.
