Steinmeier shows ambassadors the treasures of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania!

On June 23, 2025, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will become the scene of international diplomacy when Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier invites a group of foreign diplomats to the region. The event aims to showcase the diversity of Germany's regions, a tradition that has been celebrated annually since 1996. This time the journey takes you through the idyllic towns of Waren an der Müritz, Ulrichshusen and Rostock-Warnemünde and offers colleagues from the diplomatic corps an exciting insight into the federal state.

The first leg of the trip begins with a visit to Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH in Waren, a renowned manufacturer of ship propellers. Here the diplomats can not only learn more about production, but also about the importance of this industry for the region.

Cultural highlights and historical context

After the tour, lunch in the magnificent Ulrichshusen Castle is on the agenda. This Renaissance building is not only an important part of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival, but also plays a role in German-German history. After the Second World War, the castle was expropriated and burned down shortly before the fall of the Wall. Helmuth von Maltzahn acquired the ruins in the 1990s and had them extensively renovated. Today the castle is also a popular hotel and a cultural center of the region.

Later in the day, a tour takes you through the Rostock harbor to Warnemünde. A reception will take place here on the famous sailing training ship of the German Navy, the “Gorch Fock”. This maritime tradition underlines Germany's connection to its coast and shipping.

Insight into diplomacy

Steinmeier will be accompanied by Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig, who will take part in the tour on June 24th. Under her leadership, the event will become an important encounter with the aim of presenting Germany and its regions in the best light. The reception on the “Gorch Fock” will enable diplomats to experience maritime history and culture up close.

Media representatives are cordially invited to take part in the various events, which are summarized in a compact program. Accreditation for journalists closed on June 17, 2025.

Taking into account the annual tradition, this visit offers not only the diplomats, but also the entire region the opportunity to highlight its diversity and importance for Germany. In this way, not only economic but also cultural aspects are brought into focus, which is of great interest to everyone involved.
