Steinmeier shows ambassadors the treasures of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania!
Neustrelitz, Deutschland - On June 23, 2025, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania becomes the scene of international diplomacy when Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier invites a group of foreign diplomats to the region. The event aims to present the diversity of the German regions, a tradition that has been celebrated annually since 1996. This time the journey through the idyllic places is on Müritz, Ulrichshusen and Rostock-Warnemünde and offers colleagues from the diplomatic corps an exciting insight into the federal state.
The first stage of the trip begins with a visit to Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH in Waren, a renowned manufacturer of ship propellers. Here the diplomats can not only learn about production, but also about the importance of this industry for the region.
cultural highlights and historical context
After the tour, lunch in the magnificent Ulrichshusen Castle is on the program. This Renaissance construction is not only an important part of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival, but also plays a role in German-German history. After the Second World War, the castle was expropriated and burned down shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Helmuth von Maltzahn acquired the ruin in the 1990s and had it renovated. Today the castle is also a popular hotel and a cultural center of the region.
In the further course of the day, a tour of the Rostock port leads to Warnemünde. Here there is a reception on the famous sailing school ship of the Federal Navy, the "Gorch Fock". This maritime tradition underlines Germany's attachment to its coast and shipping.
