The search for a missing 53-year-old man in Domjüchsee near Neustrelitz was temporarily suspended on Thursday, August 14, 2025. This was announced by police spokeswoman Johanna Liebich. The man went into the water at a swimming area in the lake on Wednesday afternoon around 4 p.m. and was reported missing by an acquaintance after he could no longer be found at 5 p.m. Despite an extensive operation by the police, fire brigade, DRK Neustrelitz, DLRG Neubrandenburg and a police helicopter, the search remained unsuccessful until the evening.
The search continued on Thursday with an inflatable boat, a special sniffer dog and a magnifying glass that can look up to three meters deep into the lake. The water police were on duty throughout the morning, but the divers and the fire brigade team from Alt-Strelitz were unsuccessful. Jörg Westphal, the acting community leader, explained that on Wednesday one could still speak of a rescue operation, but this was no longer the case on Thursday. At around 2 p.m. the police announced that the search measures had been stopped.
