Dance and dream: The Little Prince” conquers Neustrelitz!
The anticipation for the new season of the German dance company is increasing: Choreographer Torsten Merchant started the season with a clear call: “And now let’s get started”. How Strelitzius reports, the premiere of the dance piece “The Little Prince”, based on the timeless work by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, will be celebrated on November 1st at the Schauspielhaus Neubrandenburg. A special highlight: The piece will also be performed at the Landestheater Neustrelitz on November 14th.
The story is about a little prince who leaves his planet to explore the world. On his journey he meets various neighboring planets with bizarre but lovable guests, as well as people, animals and plants on Earth. He asks questions that stimulate deep thoughts and find expression in music and dance. The music for this wonderful story comes from Gisbert Näther, while Torsten Merchant is responsible for the choreography.
Insight into creative work
The new season promises to be exciting in other ways too. Handel has already staged the piece at the Hof Theater in 2023, with close cooperation with this theater producing the stage design and costumes. Nevertheless, he emphasizes that something of his own will emerge in Neustrelitz. Managing director Marco Zabel describes the dance piece as “very poetic, full of wisdom,” which only increases expectations for the premiere.
A fresh face in the ensemble is Roberta Ramos, who has found her place in the team. Axel Rothe will also act in his dual role as speaker and dancer. The first training sessions after the summer break have already taken place, which gave the team a good start to the new season.
An exciting year full of dance
The program booklet for the 2025/26 season is presented on 120 pages and has the motto “Dancing is our element”. Another highlight will be the premiere of “Earth” on April 18, 2024, which is part of an element cycle. Choreographers such as Emil Faski and Monica Proenca work together here, while Vinicius da Silva will perform with “Genesis. The First Chapter” on June 6, 2024 in the Borwinheim. The “Dance Night” on September 13th, 2024 is also on the calendar, and a whole weekend for dancing will take place in Neustrelitz on September 27th and 28th, 2024.
The collaboration with Theater und Orchestra GmbH is also striking, and in the coming season this will include the musical “My Fair Lady”, the operetta “Frau Luna”, the traditional theater ball and “Die Csárdásfürstin”. Roberta Ramos will also perform a “Carmen” solo at the dance night, highlighting the diversity of the artistic performances.
With all of these exciting projects, the German dance company seems well prepared for a season full of creativity and fascinating performances.
