Tragic swimming accident: 53-year-old missing in Domjüchsee!

On August 13, 2025, a tragic incident occurred at the Domjüchsee bathing area. At around 4:00 p.m. there was a swimming accident in which a 53-year-old man went missing while swimming. However, the immediate search measures organized by various rescue and emergency services were unable to find the man. news.de reports of a large-scale search that used boats from the Alt-Strelitz fire department and the DRK water rescue service in Neustrelitz, among others. The DLRG Neubrandenburg was on site with a team of four comrades, including two divers.

In addition, the police supported the efforts to find the man with a helicopter and two tracking dogs. Unfortunately the search efforts had to be interrupted due to darkness, but they are planned for the following day. The circumstances of the incident are particularly worrying because, as TAG24 reported, swimming accidents often occur in places without lifeguard supervision, such as quarry lakes and gravel pits.

Increasing dangers in the water

As temperatures rise, many people are drawn to the cool water, which increases the risk of swimming accidents. Fatal incidents often occur where there are no lifeguards. The German Life Saving Society (DLRG) warns that many people underestimate the dangers in water. Tragically, tragic accidents often occur during the bathing season in which lifeless bodies floating in the water have to be rescued. Although drowning is often the cause, it is not always a direct case of drowning.

The DLRG reports alarming figures: In 2023, there were a total of 411 fatal accidents in the water in Germany. This represents an increase of 31 cases compared to last year and marks the third consecutive increase. President Ute Vogt expressed the hope that people would be made aware of the dangers during the warm season. DLRG also plans to specifically make parents of small children aware of the particular risks.

Water tragedies are common, and many accidents could potentially be prevented if the dangers are better understood and respected. The search for the 53-year-old man now continues, and the rescue workers hope to see a positive turn in this sad incident.
