New playground in space design: Children dream big in Rostock!

Yesterday, new play equipment was inaugurated at the popular playground on Hans-Sachs-Allee. The space, which had been in existence for 25 years, was in dire need of a refresh as the previous wooden equipment, installed in 2000, was severely worn out. Despite various repair attempts, some add-on parts recently had to be removed. The overall renovation cost the city of Rostock around 97,000 euros and was completed at the end of September. The Rostock city administration reports this in an official announcement on its website rathaus.rostock.de.

The children played a key role in the planning. Members of the children's community at the Rostock Leisure Center (RFZ) had requested the theme of “space” and, together with the Office for Urban Greenery, Nature Conservation and Cemetery Management, were able to select the new play equipment from three design suggestions. The new equipment, which comes from the manufacturer HAGS, includes climbing, balancing and sliding elements that promote both movement and dexterity. Special attention was also paid to the younger children, for whom their own, compact play combination was provided.

Redesign on Bleicherstrasse

In further news, the playground on Bleicherstrasse is currently being renovated. This square was built about 15 years ago and is located in the residential area at the former Friedrich-Franz-Bahnhof. The renovation is being carried out on behalf of the Office for Urban Greenery, Nature Conservation and Cemetery Management with a budget of around 170,000 euros from the city budget. Construction began at the beginning of November and residents should be prepared for possible temporary obstructions from construction vehicles as well as restrictions on the cycle paths. This information comes from Northern Courier.

The redesign of the playground includes new play options for children up to 13 years old. While many existing play equipment will be retained, new equipment will be added. For safety reasons, a small play area will be dismantled and converted into a grass area. Raised beds create a visual and spatial separation between play areas and sidewalks and cycle paths. In order to improve the comfort of the stay, seating will be set up in the area of the raised beds and in the two existing corners of the playground. In addition, the planting will be supplemented with shrubs and waste containers and bicycle racks are planned.

Diverse developments for Rostock children

The extensive renovations clearly show that the city of Rostock has a good hand when it comes to designing its playgrounds. Working with the children when selecting new play equipment brings a breath of fresh air and ensures that the wishes of the little citizens are heard. Both the redesign of the existing facilities and the fresh designs help to make the spaces attractive places for families who want to spend time together outdoors. The play activities are not only a source of joy, but also promote the development of movement and social interaction.
