Rostock's new playground: Children dream in space design!

In Rostock everything is currently focused on children and their playgrounds. The playground on Hans-Sachs-Allee in particular recently underwent a comprehensive renovation. Almost 100,000 euros were invested in a fresh design with futuristic play equipment. The new playground was officially opened on Monday, November 10th. After 25 years, it was high time for a fundamental modernization, as the old wooden play equipment from 2000 was badly worn out. These had to be removed for safety reasons. But the new play equipment, all designed in a space design, will invite children of all ages to play, climb and explore, reports NNN.

A special highlight is that the topic “space” was suggested by the young members of the children's community themselves. They were able to actively participate in the planning process and select the new play equipment. The offerings include climbing frames, balancing routes and slides that are not only fun, but also promote exercise, skill and creativity. A smaller play area for the youngest visitors will also be integrated, ensuring a broad target group.

More playground projects in Rostock

The redesign of the playground will include activities for children up to 13 years old and will also provide seating in raised beds and in the corners of the site. New play equipment will also be integrated, while the existing ones will largely be retained. Litter bins and bike racks are added so that parents can relax and watch their children play.

Children's participation in the process

The voices of children are increasingly being heard in Rostock. With the Child and Youth Participation Act (KiJuBG M-V), which came into force on April 1, 2024, their inclusion in important planning is legally required. On March 13, 2024, the first children and youth participation conference took place in the Rostock town hall, where specialist lectures and workshops gave children and young people the opportunity to actively contribute their opinions. The results of this conference should flow into further projects such as Citizen participation Rostock informed.

Those responsible, including Mayor Eva-Maria Kröger, are committed to promoting participation by the young generation. It is clear that children are not only the future, but can also actively shape their environment today with a good hand. Further events are planned to continue the dialogue about their needs and desires. It will be exciting to see how the process will develop in the Hanseatic city!
