The art scene in Schwerin attracts with an exciting exhibition that immerse yourself deep into the last 35 years in national history. Under the title "A matter of time. Image journalistic views of 35 years of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania", the show is devoted to the essential events from the fall of the wall to the present day. A real treat for history and photography lovers! The exhibition is organized by the image archive of the state capital Schwerin and photographers of the association and curated by Volker Janke. The image journalistic project pursues the goal of developing a picture cycle to the events in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since 1989. It provides both Eastern and West German perspectives and thus creates a comprehensive perspective on the past three decades. These facets of history are not just the past, they are part of the collective memory of the region that needs to be preserved.

historical context

The home of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has an eventful story that goes back until the country was founded in 1945. After the Second World War, the country was formed from the former country of Mecklenburg and parts of the province of Pomerania, and the first state elections took place in 1946. The political landscape has changed continuously since then, especially with the turn in 1990 when Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was founded and Schwerin became the state capital.

The region has experienced many ups and downs, from the popular uprising in 1953 to the G8 summit in Heiligendamm. It is exciting that despite the demographic change, the country has again recorded attractions since 2013, which shows that the developments of the past 35 years have not just memories, but have an impact on today's time.

If you are looking for a way to immerse yourself in the eventful past of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and at the same time appreciate the creative work of local photographers, a visit to the exhibition in the Kunstkaten of the Schwerin-Muß open-air museum is just the thing. Take the opportunity to gain magical insights into history!
