Dresdner Kreuzchor delights in Demmin with magical sounds!

On Friday evening, July 5, 2025, the Bartholomaei Church in Demmin became the venue for an impressive concert by the Dresden Kreuzchor. The famous men's choir presented a varied program in front of more than 520 curious listeners who had gathered in the almost sold-out church. Before the break, sacred songs were played, followed by traditional German folk songs, which immediately created a good atmosphere. The audience was so enthusiastic that several encores were requested. The concert ended with the well-known melody “The Moon Has Risen”.

The response to the concert in Demmin was consistently positive. Angela Röder, one of the visitors, said she was extremely pleased with the performance and the quality of the music. “It was just heavenly,” she enthused. Martin Lehmann, the cantor of the Kreuzchor, was also moved. The performance had a special meaning for him because he was born in Malchin, not far from Demmin. Not only is he at the helm of the choir, but he is also actively involved in the care and preservation of German folk songs.

On tour through Germany

The concert in Demmin was part of the Dresdner Kreuzchor's summer tour, which takes place from June 25th to July 6th, 2025. During this period, a total of 10 concerts are planned in six German federal states as well as a trip to Switzerland. The tour highlights include cooperation concerts with the Wuppertaler Kurrende and performances in the St. Blasien Cathedral. The Kreuzchor also impressed audiences in Schwerin, where the concert took place in the sold-out Schwerin Cathedral.

The musical palette ranges from early baroque polychoral music to romantic song. You can hear works by classics such as Carl Maria von Weber, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Antonín Dvořák, as well as artistic versions of traditional folk songs by well-known composers such as Friedrich Silcher, Heinrich Werner and Rudolf Mauersberger. Such demanding musical performances bring an exciting combination of spiritual and folk scenes to the stage that goes far beyond the boundaries of choral music.

A celebration of community

Visitors from surrounding towns such as Teterow, Malchin and Neubrandenburg came to enjoy the event. Among them were six women from Wernigerode who attended the concert during a “women's vacation” in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and were visibly enthusiastic. The Kreuzchor, which consists of 69 singers between the ages of 10 and 18, exuded a special sense of community that was quickly passed on by those present.

With this tour, the Dresdner Kreuzchor not only celebrates the end of the season, but also sets an example for the preservation of a valuable cultural asset: choral music that lasts for generations. As the last notes of the concert faded away, it became clear that the evening in Demmin was not only a musical but also a communal celebration that will continue to resonate in the hearts of the listeners.
