Stadtwerke Schwerin is launching a 10-hectare solar system in the industrial park that will supply 4,000 households and promote sustainable energy.

Gigantic solar system in Schwerin: 4,000 households now benefit!
Something exciting is happening in the heart of Schwerin: the Schwerin public utility company recently opened an impressive photovoltaic system in the Göhrener Tannen industrial park. With an area of ten hectares and an output of 10.27 megawatts, the new plant not only represents progress, but also green electricity that covers the annual needs of around 4,000 households. This is an important step towards a sustainable energy future.
The new solar system consists of a whopping 17,000 modules that were built by the Society for Renewable Energy, a subsidiary of the municipal utility company. The investment amounts to around seven million euros, a sign of a strong commitment to renewable energies.
Sustainability in focus
It is particularly worth mentioning that ecological aspects were also taken into account when installing the modules. The protection of the native sand lizards has been taken into account, and the layout leaves enough space for ecological habitats. This shows that this is not just about energy, but also about preserving biodiversity. In addition, it is even possible to later graze sheep on the site, which adds an additional dimension of sustainability.
Hanno Nispel, Managing Director of Stadtwerke, emphasizes the company's commitment to renewable energy sources. Bernd Nottebaum, Head of Buildings, Environment and Transport, also emphasizes the importance of regionally generated, green energy for attracting new companies. One thing is clear: Not only is a good electricity price achieved here, but real added value is also created for the region.
Looking into the future
The new solar system is part of a larger plan, as further projects to expand renewable energy systems in and around Schwerin are already being prepared. This initiative is no coincidence: Loud Destatis Renewable energy plays a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions, and global figures show the importance of switching to sustainable energy sources.
About these numbers: In 2023, global electricity generation from renewable energy was an impressive 9,029 terawatt hours, an increase of 5% compared to the previous year. Solar energy accounts for 18% of global electricity generation, showing that the time is ripe to invest in renewable projects.
The solar system in the Schwerin Industrial Park is a prime example of efficient and environmentally friendly use of energy. In doing so, the city not only shows that innovation and environmental awareness can go hand in hand, but also that a good hand in planning and implementing such projects is a real benefit for everyone involved. Schwerin not only produces green electricity, but also sets a good example.
Cheers to the future of renewable energy! We can't wait to see what projects will follow, because it's not for nothing that it's about nothing less than our shared sustainable energy future.
