Something exciting is happening in the heart of Schwerin: the Schwerin public utility company recently opened an impressive photovoltaic system in the Göhrener Tannen industrial park. With an area of ten hectares and an output of 10.27 megawatts, the new plant not only represents progress, but also green electricity that covers the annual needs of around 4,000 households. This is an important step towards a sustainable energy future.
The new solar system consists of a whopping 17,000 modules that were built by the Society for Renewable Energy, a subsidiary of the municipal utility company. The investment amounts to around seven million euros, a sign of a strong commitment to renewable energies.
Sustainability in focus
It is particularly worth mentioning that ecological aspects were also taken into account when installing the modules. The protection of the native sand lizards has been taken into account, and the layout leaves enough space for ecological habitats. The new solar system is part of a larger plan, as further projects to expand renewable energy systems in and around Schwerin are already being prepared.
