Big triumph for Schwerin: Justin Drews wins national competition!

What a great event in Wuppertal! The 62nd national competition “Jugend musiziert” took place here from June 5th to 11th, 2025, in which not only more than 1,800 young talents from all over Germany took part, but also students from the Schwerin Conservatory demonstrated their skills. This creative event attracts the best young musicians and offers them the opportunity to present themselves to a wide audience and a competent jury. The spectacle was characterized by excellent musical performances, encounters and lots of music.

The participants from Schwerin in particular had a brilliant performance. NDR reported that Justin Jörg-Willi Drews won first prize in the Solo Vocal/Pop category with a maximum score of 25 points. His performance sets new standards among the participants and shows how much talent there is in the region.

Prizes and awards for Schwerin musicians

The successes of the Schwerin musicians are remarkable. There were several awards in the different categories:

  • 1. Preis und Höchstpunktzahl 25: Justin Jörg-Willi Drews (Solo: Gesang/Pop, Klasse von Lars Hammer)
  • 1. Preis, 24 Punkte:
    • Johanna Lorenz (Duo: Klavier/Blasinstrument, Blockflöte, Klasse von Anke Weißer)
    • Anne Christin Möbius (Duo: Klavier/Blasinstrument, Klavier, Klasse von Prof. Imorde)
  • 2. Preis, 22 Punkte: Wendel Weniger (Duo: Klavier/Blasinstrument, Klavier, Klasse von Cornelia Freese-Körner) mit Kammermusikpartner Jakob Koll (Saxophon, Musik- und Kunstschule Ataraxia e.V.)
  • 3. Preis, 20 Punkte:
    • Theresa Roettig (Solo: Streichinstrumente, Violoncello, Klasse von Andrea Häfer)
    • Charlotte und Friederike Claussen (Vokal-Ensemble, Klasse von Josephine Johannßen)

A total of 1,157 ratings were achieved in the competition, distributed among 160 participants, who were heard in 124 rating games. This huge rush of talent shows how much enthusiasm there is for the music and the competition. On the Pentecost weekend, the city was a veritable melting pot of sounds.

Diverse supporting program and opportunity for exchange

The organization of the competition was excellent. Not only were the participants able to show what they could do; The supporting program was also diverse. Youth make music offered numerous opportunities for exchange with the jurors and interesting consultations. Prize winners' concerts also took place, which made a lasting impression on the audience.

The city of Wuppertal provided participants with some amenities, including free entry to cultural institutions such as the Green Zoo, the Von der Heydt Museum and the Swimming Opera. Free use of public transport, including the exciting Wuppertal suspension railway, rounded off the experience. A research day was also planned at the Junior University, where young talents were given additional knowledge.

The national competition, organized under the sponsorship of German Music Council, will remain an important event for the promotion of young musicians in the future. It's clear: there's a lot of talent on stage here, and we can't wait to see what the future has in store for the young artists!
