Young talents shine: This is how the music scene in Schwerin triumphs!

On October 18, 2025, the Fridericianum high school in Schwerin experienced a musical highlight that brought the talents of young musicians back into the spotlight. Numerous brilliant soloists and ensembles presented themselves as part of the renowned “Jugend musiziert” competition. The talented Lina Luise Ritschard was there, who won two awards with her work “Cygnes reflétant des éléphants”.

Ritschard, who shone on stage with her cello, was awarded the Neue Musikzeitung Special Prize for the best interpretation of her own work and for her performance at the national competition, where she received the Bertold Hummel Foundation Special Prize. “It is impressive how much passion and creativity these young artists have,” says the Minister of State for Culture.

Great moments of classical music

The program ranged from classical to contemporary music. The participants appeared in different line-ups. Avalon Stottrop (violin), Georg Schupelius (cello) and Kian Lee Özgünsür (piano) interpreted Lera Auerbach's “Triptych – The Mirror with the Three Faces”. Erwin Schulhoff was also represented with his “Sonata”, which Hannah and Sebastian Rauch skillfully presented on flute and piano.

In addition, the trio of Yuni Kim (oboe), Helen Rau (bassoon) and Babett Lehnert (piano) played their way into the hearts of the listeners in Francis Poulenc's “Trio FP 43”. There were also commendations for the performance of Daniela Melikhov and Mischa Gabbazov, who were honored for their performance of Edison Denisov's “Sonata”.

Special awards and funding

However, the awards were not only achieved through outstanding musical performances. The participants were part of a comprehensive funding initiative aimed at strengthening music culture in Germany. The Music Initiative supports, among other things, young talents with programs that help them find their way in the concert scene. This also includes prizes, which are an important incentive for many of the young musicians.

Thanks to these funding programs, both solo and chamber music achievements could be recognized. The numerous special prizes that were awarded for special achievements played a central role. For example, Adelia Schalhorn, together with Lily Merja Stieper, received the special prize from the Bertold Hummel Foundation for the performance of Dutilleux's “Sonatina for Flute and Piano”.

Overall, the outstanding performances of the young talents show that the young musical talent in Germany has great talents and will produce some important artists in the future.
