On October 12, 2025, Schwerin will be the venue for a great event: The German Cutter Sailing Championship returns to the state capital after over 16 years. From September 11th to 13th, 2026, over 400 participants from all over Germany will flock to Lake Schwerin to compete in exciting competitions. The event will take place from Schwerin Marine Club organized, which has a strong base with a total of 95 members, including 22 children and young people.

Schwerin has hosted several championships in the past, most recently in 2009. In the coming years, the city will host these exciting competitions for the fifth time, which have attracted many water sports enthusiasts in the past. What is particularly noteworthy is the fact that up to nine races are planned, in which 40 teams will take part. They all dream of winning the prestigious title. The event is also supported by Schwerin Sailing Club from 1894 and the Mecklenburg Sea Sports Club Schwerin, which underlines the importance of the event.

Cutter sailing: A popular sport in Schwerin

Cutter sailing has a long tradition in Schwerin. The large, bulbous boats, once used to train sailors, have a special appeal to the local water sports community. The Schwerin Marine Club, as the main organizer, owns six of its own sailing cutters, which are regularly used for training purposes and competitions. The club members are particularly interested in promoting children's and youth sports, which gives the club a lively and committed community.

The championship will be held by German Maritime Sports Association organized in collaboration with the MV State Maritime Sports Association. The organizers are actively looking for sponsors who would like to support the championship financially. Various sponsorship packages are available for interested companies, including the captain, helmsman and sailor categories. Matthias Schulz from the Schwerin Marine Club is available as a contact person to discuss details.

An event for young and old

The German Cutter Sailing Championship promises not only exciting competitions, but also a great atmosphere for participants and spectators.
