Lifeless body of a missing child discovered in Güstrow!
On the morning of October 14, 2025, the lifeless body of a child was discovered in a forest near Güstrow, more precisely in Klein Upahl. This tragic discovery came after a tip from the public. According to unconfirmed reports, the body was found burned, further complicating the investigation. The location was largely cordoned off and the police assume that it is eight-year-old Fabian L., who has been missing since Friday. A forensic medical examination should provide clarity about the child's identity. “A crime cannot be ruled out due to the situation in which it was found,” emphasized a police spokesman. A crisis intervention team is assisting relatives while the police investigation is in full swing. Schwerin.news reports on the current state of affairs.
Little Fabian was reported missing on October 13, 2025. According to police, he left the house with his mother's permission on Friday afternoon to go to his father near Zehna, but did not return at the agreed time. When the mother informed the police around 8:30 p.m. on Friday evening, the search had already begun. At the weekend, around 100 emergency services did everything they could to find the child. The most important locations were the bus station in Güstrow and the surrounding forests. The police suspected that Fabian might have wanted to take the bus to see his father. NDR announces details of the search measures, some of which were supported with drones and police helicopters.
Investigations and review of the search
The search operation included many different measures. Up to twelve sniffer dogs, including specially trained mantrailer dogs, were deployed to follow the boy's scent. Neighbors were also interviewed and vacant buildings were searched. A large part of the emergency services had to be withdrawn by darkness on Saturday. On Sunday morning, a police helicopter was used to search areas that were difficult to access.
In the elementary school, where Fabian would have started a new week, school psychologists are available to support the children.
The police are asking the public for any relevant information. A citizen telephone was set up to reach possible witnesses. “Please do not start private searches,” appeals the police, in order to prevent important clues from being covered up. Little Fabian is about 1.44 meters tall, has short blonde hair and blue eyes. He was wearing eye-catching blue trainers with the words “Fashion Sport” on them, and he may have been wearing sweatpants and a sweater.
The responsibility for finding missing people does not only lie with the police. In many regions, such as in Güstrow, such cases are taken seriously and dealt with at high speed. This can also be seen, for example, in the experience of police stations in other cities, where children are regularly reported missing. WDR illustrates how crucial it is to act quickly and precisely in order to clarify the fate of missing children.
